Tested all of the Asahi yeast-series beers the same evening, thanks to Kjetil at NØ. The most interesting aspect with these four beers experiment is the fact that they are all made identical. The only difference is the type of yeast. The beer itself is a commercial lager and not very interesting itself. You have to dive deep inside the glass (and yourself) to search for greater variations. All of them are golden pale with a small head. This one might be my favourite. 787 is the one with most aroma and it’s possible to sense the malt and hops. Maybe also marginal sweeter than the others.

Can. Number three of the four "yeast-series" from Asahi, and last of the lager-yeast beers. My least favorable of the three, but the differences are so small I ended up giving them all the same rating. Color is pale golden, like 318, and with a small white head. Flavor is mostly like 318, but lacks some of the bitterness. Thin, lightly sweet body. (060103)

Clear, pale yellow body under a small, white, normal-laced head. Aroma is very faint and hard to place. Mostly stale apple, I’d say. Taste has more body to it than the other two in this series I’ve tried, but the same cleanness. Taste is mostly very light malts, followed by a nice, crisp bitterness. Not much to this, but nothing wrong with it, either. Best thing about it is probably the aftertaste.

This is one of a four beer set from Asahi. The beers are numbered with the strain of yeast used to make them. They’re all "Premium Lagers" with 5% ABV. Here’s a link http://www.asahibeer.co.jp/products/beer/koubonumber/ I did a side by side with the four of these. None were really noteworthy, in fact they were all rather similar being clear light -medium Gold with a small white head. had a "German" scent to it, like Bitburger. Not bad.
