Aroma of burned malts, raisins, bitter chocolate and alcohol. Great mouthfeel! Chocolate bitterish flavour, bit coffee, plenty of burned malts and some dry hoppiness. bitter (1137), Henderson, Nevada, USA

I wasnt nearly as crazy about this beer as my coherts were that night. its a good looking black beer with a nice thick tan head. nose was quite large of espresso and fudge chocolate. the flavors on the palate dont stand up to the nose and fall a bit flat for me. more one dimensional in roasted malt with embers of alcohol. i would like to try it again completely sober and give it another rate to see if i missed something.+ TimE (1347), Tokyo, Japan
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 2, 2006 This beer is significantly better on draft, than in a bottle IMO. A beautiful pitch black color with a little amount of off white head. The nose exudes liquorice, dark fruit, salt, plums, whisky, but surprisingly little dark chocolate characters. The dark chcolate comes out more in the bitter sweet mouth that has subtulties of dark fruit, whisky, caramel, baked cake and strawberries. Alcohol has significant presence as well. The finish is like a baked cake drenched in dark chocolate and whisky, though not overly sweet. Great stuff!

Darkly toasted and lactic aroma with sweet raisins, dark chocolate truffles, and bits of alcohol. Silky body with a good deal of dark bitterness. The sweet, heavily malted and chocolaty aroma continues to penetrate my senses throughout the sampling and keeps the bitterness at bay. Wonderful dark chocolate flavours that mix well with the luscious fruits. One I would be happy to drink again…thanks a bunch IslandHaole! oldrtybastrd (1801), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 28, 2005 Black. Slight head. Sweet, rich, dark malt aroma with massive depths of plum, raisin, dark chocolate, spices, and plenty of alcohol. The silky body is less complex, sadly, than the aroma. It has chocolate and sweet dark malts, but lacks the fruity density and alcohol kick the aroma told me to expect. It’s drinkable, and overall fairly decent, but lacks the depth and complexity to measure up to the Couragesque aroma. Flavourwise, it’s more on a par with ABC Stout...not the worst thing on Earth but the aroma had me expecting a world classic.
