Taste lingers well on the tongue and throat. As supermarket label beers go, this is one of the best and currently on sale at £1.00....... downender (2615), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 15, 2009 Very lively pour, with a deep amber colour. Muted malt aroma with some dusty hops. Flavour was sweet, with chunky malts, dried floral hops and a short, bitter finish. Ok, but this was subdued all round. Beth101 (317), West Yorkshire, England

I picked up three Shepherd Neame bottles yesterday, a 1698, a Whitechapel Porter and this Gentleman Jack. The 1698 was great, the Porter was crap, so what was this one going to yield? Well, it pours a good translucent brown with a medium white head. A slightly fruity aroma with hops. The taste was okay, a fairly standard brew, but not quite a premium bitter. I found it a little thin on the palate. DruncanVeasey (2747), The Penguin’s Arms, Europe, Warwickshire, England
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 28, 2007 Clear chestnut pour with a generous dimpled white head. Soapy caramel nose. A promising combination of caramel malt and leafy hops largely ruined by a stale cardboardy back-taste. TheGrandMaster (1862), Auckland, New Zealand
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 9, 2007 Bottle, pours burnished copper colour - almost ruby - with a foamy white head. A pleasant rich malty aroma, but the flavour is more dominated by hops that cut through the richness and caramal malt. On the downside, I agree that it is a little thin and has a slight metallicness. Better than most Shepherd Neame brews though, and surprising that they have let it be branded Asda. Gethinbeer (1003), Nova Scotia, Canada
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Dec 4, 2006 Sweet bitter aroma. Dark bronze with a medium carb. Thin to no head. Malt flavour, fizzy on the mouth. Slightly metallic. Feels a bit thin, I expected something better. Ruprekt (20), Canterbury, England

A lightweight, but crisply bitter and refreshing little filly. Whatsmore, its a steal at just over a quid. This is like a common trollop, easy on the palate and game for a fiddle, but you wouldnt want to take it home to your mum. Bring it on, I say!
