Elwood (647), Leesburg, Virginia, USA Aug 31, 2009 Serving: Draft.
Appearance: Dark brown with some garnet highlights and a creamy, tan head. Decent lacing.
Aroma: Roasted coffee notes with light caramel notes in the background.
Taste: Roasted malt, husk, coffee, slight fruitiness and some nuttiness. Perhaps a bit over roasted.
Palate: Medium-low carbonation with a medium mouthfeel and a medium-short, roasty finish.
Overall: This certainly isn’t taking the place of my favorit porters, but it isn’t terrible either.
Rebuy: Probably not. italianjohn (337), Bensalem, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 15, 2009 Pours dark black tan head full and creamy with some lacing coffee and caramel aroma coffee and little bit of chocolate taste slight bitterness going down very good and enjoyable tasty brew Ughsmash (3978), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Aug 12, 2009 Bomber. Poured cola brown with a huge, creamy cap of khaki head, which also rolled up and out of the bottle. The aroma picked up dusty, drier chocolate notes and toasty black malts, but there was some cardboard and dank potential infection that got in the way. The flavor had more genero-dark malts than chocolate, with some touches of choc and molasses on the edges.. mild sourness again hinted at infection, and the same dark, dank stuff from the nose was in here.. roasty chocolate and molasses with a hint of cardboard on the finish. Medium-bodied and too carbonated on the palate.. this may be in the early-ish stages of infection. darn1207 (528), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Jul 21, 2009 from tasting notes - tap sampler at the coxe ave location: dark brown pour with small light tan head. muted aroma of roasty malts, chocolate and coffee. taste is the same with a cola feel to it. texture thin to medium. definitely drinkable enough for a porter. jstraw (750), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 19, 2009 Dark mahogany with big, fizzy, foamy tan head / Mild nose of tobacco / Light to medium body, fizzy and aggressive carbonation, produces weak and watery feel, with decent finish / Flavors of tobacco, cocoa, and grass, with dark fruit notes / Uneven effort. Poor body detracts, but good flavor profile shows promise. shp555 (1677), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jul 16, 2009 Pours a deep brown color with a light brown head. Aroma is roast, caramel, toast, chocolate, and some dark fruit notes. Flavor is caramel, toast, slightly fruity, roast, and bitter roasty earthy finish. Shag (1922), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA Jul 11, 2009 This ninja is smoking! Well I’ll get to that later. The appearance is a dark brown to black color. The aroma contains some coffee beans, chocolate, and a bit of smokiness. The flavor leans toward the bitter side with hints of chocolate, stale coffee, and a very smokey finish. The palate is rather thin. Overall not bad but could use a little something else. heemer77 (4294), Savannah, Missouri, USA Jul 6, 2009 Tap. The body was dark brown with some ruby at the edges. A khaki head on top. The aroma was nutty with some coffee. The taste was lightly roasted coffee with some pecans. A nice everyday porter, but not special.
