Lots of burnt coffee notes throughout, quite roasty with a bit of chocolate on the finish. Has a nice sharp hop bitterness on the tail which I find to be quite pleasing. timsilvia32 (447), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA

Pours nearly black. Light brown head. Mocha and coffee aroma and taste. Could be a little more hoppy, but very smooth. Not a lot of complexity in this one, but it didn’t stop me from having 3 glasses of it. TheBeerLover (1019), DC Metro Area, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 21, 2007 Sampled on draught at the Capitol City Carnival 2007. Pours to a deep brown to black color, with a rocky, tan head, and a moderate amount of carbonation. The nose on this beer is inviting, with aromas of dark chocolate, light roast, and coffee. The palate delivers much of the same, with good dark chocolate and coffee flavor. This beer finishes with more chocolate and coffee notes up front, then ends dry and roasty, and with a touch of piney hop bitterness that lingers. A solid porter, with good flavor and very drinkable. Would make a nice beer to match with pub grub, and a nice beer to drink a few pints of. aubreya (676), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 24, 2007 Appearance: Pours an opaque, black body with a creamy, khaki-colored head.
Smell: Aroma of roasted malts, hunks of baker’s chocolate, and maybe, just maybe a little hint of licorice.
Taste: Roasted maltiness with the flavor of dark, unsweetened chocolate. Not really much hop character at any point. Finishes roasty and chocolatey.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Soft, spritzy carbonation.
Drinkability: Not bad at all, it really started to grow on me more and more towards the end.
