I suspect they’re tryiing to siphon off some of the popularity of the Highland Tasgall Ale around town. It’s working. This is a good ale. It’s a cloudy red-brown with a sweet aroma. Some tasty caramel malts are pretty exciting, but not too heavy or sweet. And there are also a good portion of mild hops towards the finish which I’d say balance this beer out nicely. There isn’t a whole lot of bubble action on the palate, and the medium to light body distinguishes this beer from it’s heavier cousin (The Highland Tasgall Ale). | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 24, 2007 Appearance: Pours a clearish, medium brown body with a small, white head.
Smell: Light aroma of malty caramel, though not much else. Can’t a hint of caramel be enough for once? I say yes.
Taste: Soft flavor of toasted caramel with a very mild measure of sweetness. A fine dose of woody, spicy hops lasts into the finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: A satisfactory Scottish ale, and a nice way to kick-off the evening. GeneralGao (3071), Iowa City, Iowa, USA

The aroma is quite malty with a bit of twigs. A more creamy sweetness becomes evident upon tasting along with good, woody hops. The finish has some more acidic notes. This needs a bit less water in the body also. jcwattsrugger (5567), Florida and, New Jersey, USA
