shp555 (1678), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jul 16, 2009 Pours an opaque black color with a light brown head. Aroma is caramel, roast, plum, slight crystal malt sweetness, and some sweet floral hops. Flavor is malty, roast, dark fruit, some toast, and a roasty bitter finish. dkachur (2318), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Mar 6, 2009 Sampled on draft at the brewpub. Medium bodied. Rogueone (506), I F&ckin’ hate those guys from, Ohio, USA Jan 15, 2009 Draft @ ABC: Mahogany pour with a think ring of tan, bubbly head. Nice aroma of toasty chocolate malt and burnt sugars. Roasted character, chocolate malt throughout, and as it warms a distinct smoky flavor comes through in the finish. Butters (1622), Virginia, USA Oct 30, 2008 Probably my favorite from these guys. Black pour with thin brown head and good lacing. Roasty toffee aroma with some raisin and a hint of molasis. Roasty coffee, and a sweet chocolate flavor. A little astringent on the finish. Retorp (2154), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 18, 2008 Growler. Decent roast malt aroma with a good wallop of chocolate and some faintly tart notes. The body is dark brown to black and holds a thumb thick head that fades slowly. Dark and milk chocolates on the first sip, roast bitter, smoke lactic tart and thin. It’s ok, but twangy enough to be distracting. beerguy101 (3861), Newark, California, USA Jun 3, 2008 This stout pours a dark black color from the tap at brewpub. Medium sized tan foamy head. The aroma is chocolate and coffee. A medium bodied stout. The malts are chocolate and coffee. The hops are earthy. A little more roasted malt flavor is in the stout than in the porter. It is also a little thin for a stout. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. Quake1028 (633), Tampa, Florida, USA Feb 18, 2008 Growler courtesy of jredner29. Pours an inky black body with a creamy khaki colored head. Two fingers thick with some nice retention and lacing. Good looking beer. Chocolate - bitter and milk - dark fruits, cocoa powder, dark malts and coffee round out the aroma. Flavor profile keeps on that track, but adds a milky sourness to things that really goes well with everything else going on. Medium bodied, very easy to drink. Finish is a bit sour as well to start, then nice chocolate and malt notes finish things up. Underrated. Ibrew2or3 (2714), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Feb 14, 2008 This is the seventh growler Degarth opened out of seven he brought back from his trip. Thanks buddy. Pours black with nice mocha head. This is a great looking beer that carries some decent lacing. The aroma is inviting with some unexpected smokiness along with some roasty malts and hints of chocolate. The smokiness is at just the right strength to compliment the roastier malts. The flavor is very similar to the nose with some rich malt roastiness followed by a hit of licorice, chocolate, smoke and more roastiness. The burnt malts grow into the finish where a mild tart malt astringency carries the experience into the after taste. I enjoyed the way the mild smoke, roasty malts and chocolate malts all came together.
