On tap at the brewpub in Asheville, - Black as tar appearance, very thick off-white head, smoky, burnt wood and roasty aroma. Flavor has slight burnt marshmallow accents sitting on top of the bittersweet chocolate. Find traces of coffee in there as well. Thickish, decent, clean mouthfeel. All in all a very good brewpub stout.

finally on tap when I’m in town. I"ve been waiting to try this guy for a while. I was not disappointed. Thought I will say that it lacks the excitement of their hoppier ales. Still this is probably the best locally grown stout in the land.

Growler to go, enjoyed 48 hrs later. Great dark brown-black chocolate pour with a dark brown head. Yum! Nice charcoal, earthy dry chocolate sweetness to the aroma. Flavor has coco powder, coffee, molasses, burnt malt and light bitter hop finish. The only thing that detracts is a bit too much carbonation (and too big carbonation). Creamy body. Enjoyable.

draught. Quite black stuff here with a dark tan head. Definitely a stout in the aroma: burned toast, coffee, light caramel. Flavor is predominantly toasted almonds with some sweet creamy malt in the background and a stale coffee bitterness. The brew finishes nicely and borderline dry with the almond note lingering. [tasted again on 3-14-07] I concur with everything I noted here earlier and would like to add that this time I picked up a heavier meaty, bacony flavor as well.

On tap at the brewpub. A black beer with a big dark brown creamy head. Aroma is of molasses and coffee. Flavor is roasted and sweet. A boomerang in my mouth!

Pitch Black, kahki head. Aroma of raosty goodness, and very "fresh beer" smelling. Flavor is dry, but not "dry stout" dry. More of an earthy dry. Coffee, choclate, and some smoky flavors. Solid.
