It’s still a really good stout porter style beer, just not quite as much flavor and aroma as the name suggests. Very nice thick creamy stout, though. The Friar99 (222), Wisconsin, USA

Strong vanilla nose. Smelled like Salvator at first, now just vanilla. Definite vanilla, a little malt. This is not a stout, but would be a good ale of some sort. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 11, 2003 This beer, while not having the "heft" befitting of a stout, is reasonably enjoyable. Popping the cap on the bottle leads to an interesting aroma of vanilla. The brew pours a medium brownish red with a quickly disappearing head. Wow, I can see right through it. The taste is instant vanilla with some subtle malty overtones. I wish they had labelled it as a vanilla ale or something; it's too "light" to be called a stout in my book. But nonetheless, it's fairly decent. Slick (1962), Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA
