WISEGUY572 (1244), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 21, 2008 I wouldn’t call this a porter. Dark with strong sweet taste of molasses, but I don’t get any of the intensity or complexity of a good English porter; I can’t find much chocolate or any dark roasted oats; I actually could not find much of anything at all. A beer this strong should have something to recommend it other than an alcohol buzz. kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Sep 1, 2007 Date: 01/27/2007

CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Apr 22, 2007 On cask at the 1/27/07 Atlanta Cask Ale Tasting: Pours a robust opaque with mahogany edges and a thin ring of dark tan head. Has a well-spiced sweet caramel malty aroma with big black licorice notes. Body starts sweet and dark caramely malty with some peppery earthy spice toward a bittersweet spiced anise finish. Slightly over-spiced, but still pretty good. pintocb (505), Darsville, Georgia, USA Jan 28, 2007 Tasty. Dark and fairly thick looking. Lots of sweet fruit in the nose. Smells like banana bread. Very sweet flavor with chocolate tones and some spicyness I can’t peg. Could be the anise. aracauna (2357), Georgia, USA Jan 28, 2007 The score for this one kept rising throughout the beer, and not because of the alcohol. Dark and cloudy brown. There’s a slight whiff of banana in the aroma and the hops and spices start out with a harsh quality, but as a sip, the harshness fades and a rich sweetness of chocolate builds to make this quite the pleasant beer after the first few sips.
