Commercial Description:
A good, clean nutbrown ale with a malty body. This is our most popular ale due to its smooth and malty flavor. We use a mixture of pale, crystal and black malts in this one, and our primary hop is Target, though we also add some Whitbread Goldings Variation as well. The Real Ale is best fresh, so fresh in fact, that it's great right out of the bright tank.

Nice and dark looking almost like a bock or Schwartzbier. Thin head and a nutty malty aroma. Decent roasted coffee bitterness and a malty nutty aftertaste. I really like this... I’ll definitely be to making future purchases of this.

A decent brown ale with just enough nuttiness to make it worthwhile. No complaints, but nothing spectacular.

NorCal Feb ’08 - Interesting beer in terms of aroma. Aroma had that smokey, whiskey malty aroma with some leaf tobacco notes as well. Unfortunately, that’s where it ended. Appearance was a reddish/plum color with a head without any retention. Mouthfeel is incredibly thin. Flavor is smokey, tobacco, wet cardboard, a bit earthy and some nuttyness in there. Perhaps the bottle has some age on it? I dunno. I would have been nice w/o the oxidation. A fuller body and the brewers might be on to something.

Bottle. Poured a dark ruby-copper color with a huge rocky white head that settles down. Light grainy aroma wityh a musky mildewy aroma. Unfortunately this shows up the taste also. The odd finish is unpleasant. I poured most of it out.

bought being scared of the result... Pours a light tan brown .. some decent head ... smells of a simple beer and cola .. taste is a bit strange, not bad but seems very simple... non offensive but lacks chararter, a breath of fresh air as brown ales aren’t really my bag ... mouthfeel seems as good as it gets for a brown ale.. not too bad ... It’s just Bernie!

Pours a pretty dark but clear ruby. Nose is nutty and slightly caramel sweet. Flavor is sweet with artificial sweetener there as well as a slight touch of nut. But the sugary sweet dominates and keeps it to a limited type of experience. Liquid feel is good. A touch thick. And the bubble is standard. Overall a mediocre brew in the grand scheme of things. Not really worth the effort to try.

Thanks Skyview! Dark copper color with a thin head. Very odd aroma. Something like wet, old cardboard and a pinch of skunk. The taste is quite dull. Maybe a little bitter caramel.

Picked up a single 12-oz bottle at Brennan’s Country Farm Market in Brookfield, Wisconsin. Pours a clear light brownish amber brew with a fast dissolving white head that leaves behind a thin white ring. Aroma of some roasted caramel malt, flowery hops, a touch of moist cardboard, roasted nuts and just starting a baby skonk. Taste is medium bodied, lightly carbonated with flavors of bitter caramel, acidic grapefruit zest and a touch of green vegetables. Finish is slightly metallic, mild bitterness and a touch of roasted nuts.
