From Bottle. Poured cola like brown. Fluffy semi off-white head. Aroma was of malt, and barley. Flavor of nutty, toasted malts, slight chocolate hints. Nice caramel notes in the back. Medium bodied, easy to drink, nice in the end, Carbonation good.

#990. Bottle. Thanks to whoever brought this to the White Elephant exchange at the Chicago Area gathering at Flossmoor station. Clear brown color, thin tan head with a rim. Nose is thin malts. Taste is roasted malts, nearly chocolate with alcohol. Creamy and thick. Just doesnt do it for me.

My parents visited the Atlantic Brewing Company in Bar Harbor, Maine while on vacation last year (2006) and brought me back a 12 oz bottle of this beer and three others (Atlantic Mount Desert Island Ginger, Atlantic Bar Harbor Blueberry Ale, and Atlantic Coal Porter) ... Thanks mom and dad! -- Atlantic Bar Harbor Real Ale pours a cola brown color and is quite clear. It has a tan colored head that is average in size, bubbly, disappears somewhat slowly, and leaves some lacing on the glass. The aroma is a bit weak and is bread-like. The flavor is malty, nutty, and weak Baker’s chocolate. There is a slight sourness toward the end. A light cocoa-like bitterness comes out in the finish. It has a slightly less than average body and seems a little fizzy on the palate.

Guess I’m going against the grain of many recent ratings as I thought this was an enjoyable brew. Pours dark bronze with a fizzy tan head. The aroma has spicy malt, some cola and cocoa. The malt is very toasted and stong with light plastic. Medium / thick body with a good amount of soft carbonation. Taste starts off with toasted malt with earthy / woody aspects - quite hearty. The finish feels a bit sharper and grainier with some spice from the hops and spritz from the carbonation. Nicely crafted beer.

a straightforward nut brown ale, the armoa is of malt and caramel. crispy mouthfeel is accented by a slightly bitter aftertaste. overall good.

I wondered what they meant by "Real Ale," so I picked up a 6-pack after several months of wondering whether I should or not. I expected better after trying and liking their Coal Porter. However, this one didn’t quite do it for me. A very dark reddish amber brew, with overall thin consistency, helped along by the moderate carbonation. Fresh brown bread flavor with an initially dry, but then changing to bitter aftertaste, which I couldn’t attribute to hops. So-so. I like more hops and body.

Bottle. Garnet/brown color with a frothy and bumpy head. Islets of lacing. Dark bread and coffee malt aroma. Off- sweet and tangy dark cookie and coffee flavors, not unlike your average brown ale, with the fortunate absence of any salty vegemite-like yeast notes. Palate thin to medium with noticeable carbonation. Finished with a mild hop bitterness. Not my style, but overall not terrible.

Filtered deep amber hue. Ring of white head. Bready toffee nose. Light to medium bodied. Good, sweet malts. Little dry. Good solid hop notes. Dry finish.
