Commercial Description:
A good, clean nutbrown ale with a malty body. This is our most popular ale due to its smooth and malty flavor. We use a mixture of pale, crystal and black malts in this one, and our primary hop is Target, though we also add some Whitbread Goldings Variation as well. The Real Ale is best fresh, so fresh in fact, that it's great right out of the bright tank.

Serving: 12 oz. bottle. Appearance: Pours a deep brown with a small, foamy, tan head. Okay head retention. Aroma: Caramel malt, light roasted notes, a little vegetal note. Just okay. Taste: Sharp roasted notes are at the forefront followed by notes of earth, a touch of varnish, wood, and a little malt sweetness. Palate: Medium-high carbonation with a medium, slightly thin mouthfeel. Medium, roasty finish. Overall: An ale that features the qualities of roasted malt, but not much on the hop front. Highly sessionable, but a bit on the thin side. Worth a try.

Pour is a dark deep cherry color very thin off white head. Subtle aromas, very malty lots of chocolate nutty roast. Flavor is very thin as well. All I can get out of it is the chocolate and tobacco flavors. leaves the mouth feeling very watery. Not terrible but certainly nothing exceptional.

Dark Brown pour with a slight offwhite head. Aroma of crystal malt, a tiny bit of chocolate and some chalky fruitiness. flavor is a little thinner than the aroma, coffee bean, some mild tobacco and some sweet caramelly flavor. Not bad but a bit thin, not nearly as robust flavor wise as the best examples of this style.

2009 Bottle. This brew looks a lot like Coca-Cola with no head. Aroma of coffee and maltiness, which is encouraging. The flavor seems muted--not robust enough to match this aroma. Still, this beer would be good to accompany dinner. Would have preferred a little less carbonation too...

Bottle. Poured with a very small, off-white head that diminished quickly to a thin rim. No real lacing to speak of. Body was a rich, dark brown color, but very clear. Nice aroma of maltiness... some chocolate and perhaps caramel in there. Smooth and creamy on the palate, and medium-bodied, with soft carbonation. Nice, average-lasting flavor of malt... definitely chocolate tones in there. Tastes sweet at first... but actually finishes slightly bitter. An enjoyable brown ale that isn’t exemplary, but is definitely drinkable and a pretty good representation of its style.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a brown color with a soft off-white head. Not much of a fragrance to the nose. But as it hits the mouth, flavors of chocolate and malt become apparent. Medium bodied. Seemed like a hybrid between a port and an ale but not as heavy. Not bad.

(12oz bottle, courtesy of blutt59) Pours an amber-brown body with a small beige head. Aroma of cocoa, caramel, light ash, plum, raisins, brown sugar, and slightly burnt toasted bread. Flavor of roasted malt, cocoa, raisins, and toasted bread.

Pours a solid brown colot with no head. Aroma of nuts, hops, and roasted malts. Flavor of roasted malts, nuts, and a touch of hops. Medium body, but still a bit thin and carbonated.
