Commercial Description:
A good, clean nutbrown ale with a malty body. This is our most popular ale due to its smooth and malty flavor. We use a mixture of pale, crystal and black malts in this one, and our primary hop is Target, though we also add some Whitbread Goldings Variation as well. The Real Ale is best fresh, so fresh in fact, that it's great right out of the bright tank.

Mahogoney - brown color with a thin floating white head. Aroma is burned roasted nuts, some coffee, and some sweet undertones. Weak in body but it offers a gentle smootheness. Flavors of malt, nuts, roasted coffee, and some chocolate. Much different than I anticipated from this brown ale.

Pours a medium brown color with a fingers worth of head. Got light toasted malts when smelled. I’m getting confused, this drinks like a light porter and a damn drinkable one at that! This falls neatly between a brown ale and robust porter. Nice change of pace.

Smells OK. Dark for an ale. Nice roasted malt / chocolate flavor. Finished nicely. Nicely done. I’ll look for this one again.

2005 bottle consumed 6/22/2005. Copper, hickory, glowing ruby-auburn layers. Mostly clear, though there is a coating of sediment at the bottom of the bottle. Thin, off-white head recedes to ring, with light lacing in small patches. Smells of coffee grinds foremost, lightly roasty and dry. Hazelnuts, walnuts, dirty carpet. Tastes like some severely hard mineral water, soily, leafy forest floor. Dry grains, very biscuity, with notes of hard pretzels, yeasty sourdough bread, nice and raw yeastiness. Even mouthfeel with natural carbonation. As it warms you get a little bit of light caramel/chocolate sweetness. Medium body, taste replicates a cask brown ale quite nicely, I think. No off-notes, a bit dry, but it’s not quite astringent. Definitely could drink a 6 pack of this in no time.

The beer poured a deep amber color with a thin white head. Displays a strong fruit aroma of cherries, with some floral notes and good malt. The flavor however is very earthy with a good balance in the mouthfeel. The finish is decent but after all is said and done the beer is rather forgettable.

Light brown with a big tan head. Pretty strong nut aroma. Flavor of sweet malt, nuts and a little sourness in the finish.
