Aroma is lightly roasted with caramel and chestnut notes. Medium body. Flavor is similar to the aroma, but very light. Not bad, but one of the weaker brown ales I’ve had recently. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 11, 2008 Chesnut brown, moderate heading, smells like peat moss, faint hops and light caramel malt. Taste is very mild, some supportive hop bitterness to a somewhat watery malt body. Smooth drinking, would be a good session beer by the pitcher. Nothing very distinctive about this one, but no real glaring flaws either. AgentSteve (1375), SF Bay Area, California, USA

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Apr 9, 2008 12oz bottle. A friend of mine lives in Bar Harbor and has always suggested me picking up some of the "real ale". Pour was very dark with a large head atop. Not much in the nose. Taste was tabacco, malts, and some nuts. Pretty unimpressive for a beer with a lot of potential jrmac (213), USA

| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Mar 29, 2008 Tasted at the February Northern California Beer Tasting. This brown ale poured a brownish color from a 12oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is fruity and sweet with a touch of smoke and some tobacco. Medium to light bodied brown ale. The malts are fruity and sweet. with more than a touch of oxidation. The hops are kind of floral. Note this was probably an old or bad bottle as it was kind of thin and somewhat oxidized. Will retry when possible. Mouthfeel was thin. Finish was clean. Aftertaste was slightly bitter. travita (1920), Frisco, Texas, USA
