Commercial Description:
Akin to a barley wine, we suggest this ale as an after dinner drink. It has a truly unique & sophisticated flavor due to the use of wildflower honey as the catalyst for the production of alcohol. We simply use pale malt and a very small amount of Target hops in this Belgian style ale. The bulk of the body, color and sweetness come from the 2,000 lbs. of honey we add to the boil. The Brother is cellared for up to a year before it is bottled, which helps to marry the flavors and create the complex palate in this Bragget.

Definitely mead rather than Barley Wine in character. Big alcohol nose. Strong alcohol and honey flavours. A definite sipper. Might even be nice mulled. Not a lot else to describe. Has a bit of mouth drying herbal quality in the finish. Thanks Poperinge for another intriguing beer.

22oz bottle via trade with porterhouse! - Thanks Kevin! - Pours a beautiful copper color with not much head.. just a short tan ring around the edges of the snifter. Nice sweet honey aroma over caramel and blended with some subtle floral notes. Some light spiciness there too behind the caramel and even a touch of orange there. Palate is quite smooth without much carbonation and the alcohol is covered amazingly well. This is a nice blend of a barleywine and a mead... Quite an interesting brew indeed..

Subtle sweet aroma hits you up front; Flavor is the same, with the titular honey more prominent. Highly floral as well, with the 11.8% warming without being harsh. Great for an October night in Maine.

2003 vintage bomber. Pours a nice medium orangey amber, and a thin film of ahead- low carbonation. Aroma is sweet and malty, with some slight phenols and lots of fruity esters. Sticky sweet flavor with a very light bitterness. SOme toastiness, and a bit of alcohol as it warms. Barleywine like. Very nice cross of a mead and beer. This one knocked me on my ass.

from notes 10/20/05... Appears a glowing, golden orange with a small white head that slowly fades out into a soapy collar. Streaks of lacing is left around the glass. Smell is of honey, earthy, mild spices, and sunflower-esque. Taste is of the same aromas. Sweet, fruity, subtle citrus notes, and a hint of earthy spiciness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, yeasty, smooth, with an abv presence.

Pours amber into a tumbler. No head. Sweet honey and caramel notes. Taste is like the aroma. Sticky with sweet honey front to back with little carbonation. Interesting, but not for all occasions and I found the bottle a little to big for one sitting.

2004 bottle - Pours light brown with no head. Aroma is sweet and musty yeast, sweet malt, and very subtle hops-very barley wine-ish. Flavor is musty and sweet with a lot of malt and some bitterness. This is basically a strong barley wine plus a lot of sweetness and alcohol presence.
