Commercial Description:
Akin to a barley wine, we suggest this ale as an after dinner drink. It has a truly unique & sophisticated flavor due to the use of wildflower honey as the catalyst for the production of alcohol. We simply use pale malt and a very small amount of Target hops in this Belgian style ale. The bulk of the body, color and sweetness come from the 2,000 lbs. of honey we add to the boil. The Brother is cellared for up to a year before it is bottled, which helps to marry the flavors and create the complex palate in this Bragget.

(Rating #1786)

Copper-brown pour with faint threads of white foam. Nice viscous look in the glass. Sweet grainy aroma, with a hint of alcohol and a sweet herbal perfume. Taste is fairly simple, with toasty grains and a general sweetness present. A bit hot on the finish, but not bad.

Bottle. Pours brown with a ultra small white head. Aroma of honey, sweet malts, caramel, bread and alcohol. Flavor is honey sweetness with rich malts, caramel, and fruity esters with a light alcohol finish.

Very good barley wine style beer. Dark orange in the glass, it has a subtle sweetness with just a hint of hops. I thought the sweetness hid the alcohol pretty well, but it was still apparent. Overall, a very good beer.

I liked this. Very barley winish. I don’t really get the honey in the flavor or the aroma. On the nose I get malt and a sugary sweetness. It tastes well balanced and sweet. Ends with a faint hop bitterness.

Bottle (22oz) shared at ’Rudolf’s May 2008 Tasting’ -- courtesy of rudolf. Pours a clear deep orange-amber with an average size diminishing fizzy white head. Aroma of honey, malt, alcohol, light hops and some sugary sweetness. Flavour is a too boozy and sweet for my liking -- lots of sweet honey, light hops and a boozy, astringent finish. Thin bodied. Just O.K., it’s too sweet, too boozy and too unbalanced.

22 oz bottle served in a snifter. Pours a reddish port like color with a thin off white head. Quite pretty to behold. Nose is honey as expected and a bit of alcohol. Mouthfeel is thick, heavy & a little oily. The commercial description talks about honey so much, I was afraid the brew would be sickenly sweet. However, not so. The taste of honey is there, but subdued. Strong alcohol presence too. Felt a little like Winnie the Pooh after drinking this one. My head was stuffed with fluff.

Bottle from Mystery Swap 3.0. Pours a mahogany color with a thin off white head. Aroma of alcohol, toffee and honey. Taste is semi sweet of malt, honey, caramel and spices. Has a rather hot alcohol bit in the finish.
