Commercial Description:
Akin to a barley wine, we suggest this ale as an after dinner drink. It has a truly unique & sophisticated flavor due to the use of wildflower honey as the catalyst for the production of alcohol. We simply use pale malt and a very small amount of Target hops in this Belgian style ale. The bulk of the body, color and sweetness come from the 2,000 lbs. of honey we add to the boil. The Brother is cellared for up to a year before it is bottled, which helps to marry the flavors and create the complex palate in this Bragget.

Bottle, shared at the May 2008 tasting. Nose is honey & warming alcohol, not much else. Flavor is honey, flower, alcohol, yeast. Alcohol reaches the point of astringency.

Bottle at Rudy’s tasting May ’08, courtesy of Rudy. Mild honey sweetness in aroma, lots of alcohol. Looks nice - golden brown small white head. Taste is boozy, thin, with a weird watery sort of sweet aftertaste. Hmm, this one was odd and was not all that pleasant to be honest, where is the depth and the full bodied flavours that typify a solid mead?

The aroma has honey with malt and yeast. The appearance is amber/red/brown with a thin head. The flavor is funky up front with a nice aftertaste. The palate is thin. Overall it’s interesting but not great.

really nice redish/brown pour, small tan head. Aroma is very bready, with some sweet malt, and a touch of alcohol. Flavour is sweet, not cloying, but close. Quite complex, i’m getting some bready, chewy malt, some very sweet malt, a touch of the honey, some brandy flavours, and a bit of a scotch flavour in the finish. Very interesting brew, and VERY complex. The alcohol is hidden extremely well, a very nice sipper.

Courtesy mcbackus. This is a style that I am not all that familiar with. Pours a clear chestnut color. The aroma is full on honey, pears, and a touch of citric sweetness. The flavor is so sweet, with only the slightest malt notes coming through, not my favorite.
