Commercial Description:
Akin to a barley wine, we suggest this ale as an after dinner drink. It has a truly unique & sophisticated flavor due to the use of wildflower honey as the catalyst for the production of alcohol. We simply use pale malt and a very small amount of Target hops in this Belgian style ale. The bulk of the body, color and sweetness come from the 2,000 lbs. of honey we add to the boil. The Brother is cellared for up to a year before it is bottled, which helps to marry the flavors and create the complex palate in this Bragget.

Appearance: Pours a clear, ruby-hued body with a small, white head. Smell: Aroma of white grapes, sugar cookies and, to a lesser degree, malt and honey. One single spritz of perfume. A dash of pear liqueur. Taste: Honey sweetness with some bittering herbs, and tastes of pear juice and tangy white grapeskins. Sugar cookie dough. Sharps accents of flowers here and there and, though I hate to say it, lil’ jolt of astringency. Considerably warming throughout. Interestingly enough, there’re some bourbony notes along the way. Finishes with a honeyed sweetness and a touch of searing alcohol. Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Medium carbonation. Sticky mouthfeel. Drinkability: Unique and fairly interesting. For some, a good night cap, for others it’s a good with-pizza beverage.

2001 bottle aged wonderfully. Dark amber color, no head, little visible carbonation. Aroma of apple juice, honey, caramel, and alcohol. Fresh honey flavor, lots of honey, caramel as well. Quite a lot of honey sweetness.

Bottle Courtesy of hopscotch. Small white fizzy head with no retention. Honey and vanilla dominate the aroma, the taste is much the same, its extremely sweet and suprisingly the ABV is well hidden. This is much stronger than I had guessed. No bitterness and not much complexity but I rather enjoyed it for what it is.

2001. Courtesy of WickedPete. Cloudy amber body with no head. Sticky sweet honey nose with toffee and apple. Sweet taste with caramel, lots of honey and some apple. Full body is round with light carbonation. Finish is longish with a bit of warmth.

Bottle... Hazy amber ale with a small, fizzy, white head. Smells a bit like an English barleywine... perfumey and floral with sweet honey. Full-bodied with a 2%-milk mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Sweet, but adequately bitter. Honey and toasted, caramelized flavors. Finishes sweet, then bitter and grassy. Kudos to WeeHeavySD for shipping the bottle!

Courtesy hopscotch. Pours a slightly hazy amber color, with a small off white head. Smells of apple, honey, and sweet dark malts. Fruitier than I expected in the nose. The flavor is of subdued honey, not overpowering at all. The fruits balanced it out nicely. Tons of caramel malt, apple, plum, and vanilla show up in the finish. Pretty good for a bragget. Only my second one tried, but this is far superior than the first.

Bottle courtesy of Degarth. Brown pour, darker in the center and lighter edges. Nose is honey, fruity esters, fermented sugars and more honey. Flavor profile very similar, honey is everywhere but is kept in check in terms of making this sickly sweet, which you fear it may be based on the aroma. ABV is noticeable and very warming throughout. Medium bodied, very sticky and thick, as you would think drinking basically liquid honey would be. Good stuff.

Courtesy of Degarth. Pours deep hazy orange brown with weak head. The aroma has a decent load of sweet honey along with notes of alcohol, a faint fragrance of fruity esters and a building up of hotness. The taste is sweet yet drying with honey, black grapes, ripe cherries, prunes and a hint of a sweet malty backbone.
