Commercial Description:
A superb porter, hearty & dark. This one is a staff favorite, made with pale, crystal, Munich, chocolate, and black malts. The darker malts give Coal its color and rich flavor. We use Target and Willamette hops to yield a very subtle hop flavor in this porter. We cellar this beer for close to six months before releasing it on the thirsty throngs of fans.

pours a dark brown black with a two finger fluffy brown head. aroma is caramel malt, dark fruit, and brown sugar. has a medium to full body with good lacing and has just the right amount of carbonation. flavor is roasted caramel malt with some dark fruit, coffee, and bitter bakers chocolate. it is a little oily on the palate and going down the throat. it also has a little dry aftertaste and the coffee stays around for a little while. not to bad of a porter as it warms a little black licorice comes out in the aroma and flavor.

Pours pretty dark with an off-white head. Aroma is roasted chocolate. Flavor is a bit subdued in comparison to the aroma, which is a rather unique thing for me. Usually the taste is much more real to me than the aroma.

Bottle. Dark brown pour, reddish hint, almost no head. Aroma of chocolate malt, burnt malt, slightly meaty, and with some german malt also. Nice complexity in the aroma. The flavor is the same, just a hint of chocolate, mostly meaty / burnt malt. Good beer; nice smoked aspect to this porter.

Oct. 2006 - Very nice. Almost black pour, with creamy looking head, nice lacing. Aroma was strong roast and some milky lactic aroma. Flavor had rich roastiness (almost burnt), coffee and a strong chocolate finish. Nice full, thick mouthfeel. Good porter!

Pours a black color in the glass with a small tan head that fades quickly. Smells of malt and slightly of yeast. Tastes dark and toasty moving into a bitter chocolate/coffee and ending on a bitter note. Tasty and smooth. Clean mouthfeel.

Pours Dark brown w/ small 1/4" off white cap of foam, nice aroma of toast and coffee, the body is a bit thin ,the taste is bitter black malt, dark chocolate and dark roast coffee. Ive been diggin the sweet stouts lately and thought this would be similar but this was a lot drier in the finish almost astringent but a good beer non the less.

Black with a nice, creamy head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt and coffee. The flavour has a light bitterness, notes of roasted malt. coffee and licorice and it ends slightly dry. It’s uncomplicated and easy to drink - thank you Linus_stick!

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a tiny head and some fizzy lacing on the glass. I agree with brewmusckles that this brew looks more like a coke than a beer. Aroma of roasted coffee and very slight chocolate. Subdued overall. Flavor is chocolate, roasted black coffee, and an astringent quality. Thin and bitter, but warming and fairly easy-drinking. Not going to win any awards but it’s decent.
