Commercial Description:
A superb porter, hearty & dark. This one is a staff favorite, made with pale, crystal, Munich, chocolate, and black malts. The darker malts give Coal its color and rich flavor. We use Target and Willamette hops to yield a very subtle hop flavor in this porter. We cellar this beer for close to six months before releasing it on the thirsty throngs of fans.

i was not impressed. weak and thin of body unbalanced in carbonation this beer was simply harsh. earthy yet harsh. sharp and tangy with an appearance more like a soda -especially the carbonation- than a beer. some kind of licorice and for all i know coal dust as it was stingy and not the least bit sweet. perhaps soured.

Got this 12oz bottle in the states and drank it back home in Ireland. Pours a very dark brown with a 1/2 finger white head that fizzes down to a small lacing that goes down as I drink it. The roasted hints of coffee are the first thing that you notice when pouring. Some caramel and chocolatey nutty aromas come through nicely too. A bit of bitterness and hops comes through as it warms up more. Tastes great right off the bat-everything that you would expect from the pour and from the smell. Doesn’t linger too long in your mouth, but makes you thirsty for more. Full of body and taste but not too heavy really. There is some dryness at the end of each sip, but mostly that just makes you want to have another. No detection of high ABV really and very pleasant overall. I would drink more for sure, but I dont think that I could drink these all night.

Rich sweet cocoa, with a nice roastiness and some spicy hops. A little rough alcoholic edge surprised me. That mellowed as the beer warmed. I like it...

On tap at a quaint little pub in Bar Harbor. Bartender said "We’ve got great beer places here. That’s why they call it Bar Harbor." Poured a thick viscous black-brown body with a small beige head. Notes of nutty roasty malts and mild spicy hops. Sticky, sweet, and chocolaty. A little sour and mildly metallic, but overall quite good.

12 oz bottle. Pours nice dark brown with small light tan head. Chocolate, coffee and burnt malts dominate the very pleasant scent of this beer. Dry flavor, mostly dark chocolate and roasted malts. Flavor and mouthfeel are good but somewhat disappointing when compared to the smell and appearance of the beer.

First time I have had a beer from Atlantic Brewing Company. Thick tan head, pours very dark brown, near black. Smells sweet, has a hint of chocolate and coffee in there. I thought it was well balanced and a decent porter.

Picked up a single 12-oz bottle from Bennan’s in Brookfield, Wisconsin. Pours a dark cola brown brew with a thick and lumpy light tan head that has good lacing and retention. Aroma of dark toasted chocolate barley malt, a touch of flowery hops, molasses and some coffee. Taste is semi-dry, very light carbonation, smooth, creamy with a flavor of toasted dark malt, some roasted nuts and a slight chalk texture. Finish is dry, slightly bitter with some toasted dark malt after taste.
