Commercial Description:
A superb porter, hearty & dark. This one is a staff favorite, made with pale, crystal, Munich, chocolate, and black malts. The darker malts give Coal its color and rich flavor. We use Target and Willamette hops to yield a very subtle hop flavor in this porter. We cellar this beer for close to six months before releasing it on the thirsty throngs of fans.

Pours very dark deep brown. You get an earthiness on the nose than levels into a note of chocolate and coffee. These flavors give way to the light hops flavor with some toasty malt notes.

Pours an almost opaque very dark brown with a tan head that rises off the pour but falls fairly quickly. The nose is really odd. It smells like a shirt I would wear while going exploring in a mine and not washing it after wearing it 25 times. Dusty. Old. Stale. Flavor is pretty decent. Nice thick malted flavor with a strong touch of earthy influence. Feel is thin with bubble. Not much really going on. It is drinkable I guess. But I am not moved at all by this offering. Oh well. On to the next.

In short: A thin highly roasted stout/porter. Inoffensively bland
How: Bottle + tap. This re-rate for a tap pint at Three Dollar Dewey’s, Portland Maine
The look: Almost black body topped by a little beige ring of foam
In long: Light smoke and light chocolate on the nose. Very smooth beer with a soft carbonation and a soft body. Body is rather thin for the style and with the highly roasted floury malts it feels like ashes in water. Chocolate chips and some smoked wood. Fizzy soda-pop carbonation. Astringency. Ashes in the finish. I cannot give it high marks because it is very bland and a little too watery. Yet this is bland beer that is quite drinkable. Atlantic Cool Porter.

12ozer from the brewery. Pours black with a 1 finger light tan good looking head. The nose is very nice and robust. Taste is rich and hearty, nicely the best beer I had in trying some 12ozers from this brewery.

This beer was poured into a large glass with a nice dark brown color. The head faded rather quickly and it has aroma of wood and chocolate malt. It has a rather smooth flavor of roasted coffee and aged wood. There is a nice coffee taste that stays on the palate for a while.
