| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 4/5 | 10/20 | Jul 19, 2007 a little bitter but it has a lot of intersting flavors and aromas - roasted coffee and dark maltiness. The alch taste is a little high, but its ok. Wilamette hops was an excellent choice for this one.... swanmann (308), Norman, Oklahoma, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jul 15, 2007 Bottle poured into a trapist glass poured very particulate dark chocolate looking brew. I think the aroma pretty much escaped right out of the bottle, and never into the glass. I detect very suble alcohol and chocolate notes. The head settled quickly. I can’t tell if it’s just too sweet or too acidic. I think it needs to be a high-gravity brew...? biggenius29 (155), Hamilton, Michigan, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jul 12, 2007 Not very impressed. Huge head that shrinks to a small film on top of the beer. It has a metallic taste that lingers. There is also a alcohol burn. LaChad (1375), San Francisco, California, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Jul 12, 2007 Bottle. Almost black and minimally roasty in the aroms. Rather thin and a bit metallic, as others have pointed out. Seriously needs some more zing! Quevillon (1529), Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec, Canada

Arome plaisant de malte roti, un peu chocolaté. Goût de malte un peu torrifier, avec des fruits amères. Pas mal! puzzl (2621), New York, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 5, 2007 Here I am, drinkin’ mah beer. Mah beer pours with a lot a foam. Too much foam, you might say. Coal don’t have no foam. This coal does, though.
You say, hey, this smells a little tinny. But too you gots chocolate and roast. Yer normal old porter, it is. And then there on it pours in the mouth. Still a little tin, y’know? But, mah bottle be kinda old, see, so maybe, maybe that’s it? Is that all we was born fer? A little this, a little that. Not bad, paw. Could do a feller nice on a warm day, see. nearbeer (1834), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
