Commercial Description:
A superb porter, hearty & dark. This one is a staff favorite, made with pale, crystal, Munich, chocolate, and black malts. The darker malts give Coal its color and rich flavor. We use Target and Willamette hops to yield a very subtle hop flavor in this porter. We cellar this beer for close to six months before releasing it on the thirsty throngs of fans.

Bottle poured dark with just a hint of ruby. Small but creamy heas. Nice malty aroma. Good body, clean finish. Roasy with chocolate and malt, without being too sweet. A nice brew.

I had the opportunity to visit the Atlantic Brewing company while in Maine and was able to sample many of their selections. This was by far my favorite of the bunch, although they are all very good. Dry with a chocolate flavor, sweet aroma, Carbonation was pretty average. Overall a solid choice

Bottle, at Brickskeller, RBSG weekend, July 2006. Dark brown. Not opaque. Sweetish roasted malt aroma. Dryer on the palate with some chocolate notes. Smooth, but light, mouthfeel. Nothing spectacular here, but pretty solid.

Very dark brown with a good-lacing light brown head. The aroma consists of lightly rosted malt and barley, coffee, and vanilla. The taste is sweet, roasted malt, coffee, and a mild nutty bitterness. Not bad.

A dark red-brown beer with a brown head. The aroma is sweet with a weird coffee note - is it some expresso roast with vanilla in it? The flavor is sweet and very roasted malty, and with quite strong notes of expresso as well as some notes of vanilla.

Bottle drank at the Brickskeller during RBSG 06 DC Weekend Black, tan head, nice lacing. Nose of mild expectant roast, light coffee. Cliche? The flavor is creamy, light roast and sweetness. The finish is dry, light hops. Eh.

Black body, beige head. Enticing aroma of roasted malts, sweet chocolate, molassis. Flavor was pleasantly bitter. Roast and chocolate dominate, but there are undertones of plum and caramel. Medium body and lively carbonation. Moderately dry finish. Nice.

Pours deep black into a snifter. Mocha micro head recedes to hug rim. Chocolate and coffee aromas. Creamy chocolate with a sharp, slightly sour, metallic middle and a creamy espresso lasting finish.
