Commercial Description:
A superb porter, hearty & dark. This one is a staff favorite, made with pale, crystal, Munich, chocolate, and black malts. The darker malts give Coal its color and rich flavor. We use Target and Willamette hops to yield a very subtle hop flavor in this porter. We cellar this beer for close to six months before releasing it on the thirsty throngs of fans.

Bottle... Clear, ruby ale with a small, creamy, beige head. BIG MOCHA, caramel and vanilla in the aroma. Thin flavor, but perfectly balanced with small notes of coffee grounds and cocoa powder. Light-bodied and dry with fizzy carbonation. Thanks to growler for sharing the bottle with me!

12oz bottle. I think calling it a superb porter is pretty generous in the commercial description. I’m not sure that I’m tasting any of the 6 month cellering either. Average roasty taste. Medium body and mouthfeel. Like other raters, a decent beer but nothing special or out of the ordinary.

Somewhat roasted smell, a bit of a head and opaque black body. Taste is a little roasted/burned, can’t put my finger on it. Um... I so wanted to like this, but I’m not as impressed with it as I thought I’d be. Not terrible, but I’ve definitely had better porters (try Geary’s, Mainers, and Anchor everyone)

Bottle. Poured a black color with a small tan head. Huge aroma of dark chocolate, roast, and coffee that got me excited for this one. Light coffee and roast in the flavor. Medium bodied. Big aroma but then a light flavor. Looks and smells great but then a subdued flavor.

This bottled brew poured a small sized head of foamy fine to medium sized mostly lasting off-white colored bubbles that left behind a good lacing. The body contained no visible carbonation, was opaque and dark brown in color. Its aroma contained notes of roasted malts dark malt chocolate . Its mouth feel is tingly thick malt with a lingering slightly tingly palate and a brown beer aftertaste. Its flavor contained dark beer brown malts notes and was tasty. An above average brew.

Pours dark brown with smallish tan head. Nose is lovely roasted malt with chocolate bitterness notes. This transfers well into the palate with coffee-like and roasted malt flavors. Smooth mouthfeel. Pleasant beer.
