Commercial Description:
A superb porter, hearty & dark. This one is a staff favorite, made with pale, crystal, Munich, chocolate, and black malts. The darker malts give Coal its color and rich flavor. We use Target and Willamette hops to yield a very subtle hop flavor in this porter. We cellar this beer for close to six months before releasing it on the thirsty throngs of fans.

Pours black (dark mahogany when held up to light) with a medium beige head. Roasty aroma with a touch of malted milk balls. Flavor has notes of chocolate, coffee, caramel, dark roasted malt and a light presence of hops. Has the right amount of sweetness, with a lightly bitter, roasty finish. The body is medium light with some creaminess and moderate carbonation. Not much lacing but pretty solid head retention. Good porter.

bottle. Pours a dark ruby-black with a small tan head. Good roasted malt, chocolate aroma. Man, this is one roasty brew. Thick coffee is evident with a dark chocolate sweetness. I really enjoyed this brew after being subjected to a few different bad pale lagers earlier in the day.

nothing really stood out to me about this brew. I cant really put a word on the aroma, maybe coal, or slight chocolate scent. weak taste, bland coffee. just a basic porter, nothing exceptional, but not poor. medium bodied, malty texture. very dark brown in color with a off white thin head

Bottle. Pours a deep amber with beige head. Aroma of chocolate, a bit of coffee, and some general earthiness. The flavor is much like weak coffee, with some chocolate and earthy hops. There is also just a touch of sweetness in the finish.

Pours a two-finger light tan head that goes slowly leaving traces of lace. Deep amber color, light carbonation and heavy bodied. Nose is roasted coffee. Starts with a roasted coffee/chocolate flavor, finish is mellow and smooth no bitterness. $2.33 for a 12oz bottle from the brewer in Bar Harbor, Me.

12oz - Aroma is roasted coffee and chocolate malt. Pours a solid black with a medium head and great lacing. Favor is also very roasty chocolate and coffee. Has a bit of a sour aftertaste I wasn’t expecting in a porter. Palate is sticky and sour. Not bad, but not a great example of the style.

Jax Beer and Wine - Atlanta, Ga - 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark purple to black with a thin, but persistent off white head. Some brief ripening fruit notes in the aroma wih a hint of day old coffee. Flavor has a hint of chocolate, some coffee, but very subdued. Underlying fruitiness pervades. Slightly thin mouthfeel. Serviceable.

Dark with a 1/2" head with strong malt aroma. Head dissapated in one minute. Chocolatymalt flavor with a good hop finish. Light mouth feel and finishes clean.
