Commercial Description:
A superb porter, hearty & dark. This one is a staff favorite, made with pale, crystal, Munich, chocolate, and black malts. The darker malts give Coal its color and rich flavor. We use Target and Willamette hops to yield a very subtle hop flavor in this porter. We cellar this beer for close to six months before releasing it on the thirsty throngs of fans.

(Bottle) Nice tan head, lasts well. Lacing so-so. Dark mahogany body. No pronounced aroma, maybe a little coffee. Smooth mouthfeel, slightly watery. Flavor pretty reserved but good, sort of coffee-like. Nice porter.

Pours a dark brown with a thin tan head. Smells of coffee, chocolate and caramel. Tastes of bitter dark chocolate with a peppery finish.

On tap at the brewery. Clear dark brown color with a thin light brown head. Aroma and flavor of coffee with a mild bitter finish. Light body, dry texture, soft carbonation.

Pours a dark black color with a small amount of offwhite head. Aroma is sweet, molasesy, roasted nuts, and licorice. Flavor is roasted malts and bitter, slightly sour sweet finish. Slightly watery. Overall, so so.

Dark brown, ruby coloringwith a thin head. Thin mouthfeel, and the flavor was a little light fora porter. Hints of chocolate and roasted grains, but I had to really look. A pretty good beer, but way to thin and with not enough flavor.

A little lighter in mouthfeel than most porters that I’ve tried. Slighty hoppy. Rather mediocre.

This one looked great in the glass...nice deep tan/brown with a lasting head. However, the flavor was a little on the weak and watery side. There are definately some flavors of chocolate and dark malt but the overall mouthfeel is thin and somewhat subdued.

Dark brown pour with tan head. Toasted malt and chocolate aroma. Chocolate is the story in this beer, quick hit up front and lingering tones throughout with just a hop kick in the finish. Surprising light to drink, however. Stick a tootsie roll in it and serve it at Halloween!
