Commercial Description:
A superb porter, hearty & dark. This one is a staff favorite, made with pale, crystal, Munich, chocolate, and black malts. The darker malts give Coal its color and rich flavor. We use Target and Willamette hops to yield a very subtle hop flavor in this porter. We cellar this beer for close to six months before releasing it on the thirsty throngs of fans.

A good porter, quite similar to other good porters I’ve tried. Has that kinda oily feel I’ve experienced in other porters. It may not distinguish itself in its’ class, but definitely a solid porter.

Very nice porter with a chocolate tongue. Light aroma and smooth palate, this beer is fine anytime.

Black pour with a burgundy tint when held close to my lamp. Little white head with some bigger bubbles. Little bit of lacing. Baker’s chocolate, molasses, and some coffee in the aroma... very nice. Appears a bit heavier than it actually is. Rather light-bodied, but still has an enjoyable set of flavors... chocolate, fresh coffee, and vanilla. Hops were present and provided good balance. Finish was of some nicely roasted hoppy coffee. I may just have to pick up a few more of these!

bottle from beers of the world in rochesterNY. dark and acidic appearance and aroma, with an over-abundance of chocolate malt and maybe roast barley or black patent malt. tastes much darker than it is, which results in a tannic and acidic porter--to me, a porter should be dark and malty with some hops, and definitely less thin and acidic than this.

Bottle. Nice nose-coffee and chocolate. Taste is grapey and not too sweet. SLightly lactic. No big deal.

Clever name. I had this after the Summit Great Northern Porter, and this was marginally better. Soft aroma, less roasted but with a milky vein. Light chocolate touch comes out in the flavor, with a very thin, milky finish. Clear, lighter, nut brown color.

dark brown with a thin grey head. sweet caramel nose with a nice coffee note. thin flavor of vanilla, weak coffee, and a sweet finish that is reminiscent of icing.

very dark color to it. I get some roasted chocolates in the aroma, weird, got some fruits in it and more roasted malts.
