Looks dark brown pouring, but settles to a deep black in the glass. Nice thick head. This is a thinner porter which is the first thing you notice, but the flavor is commendable. Very roasty and robust, but water thin on the palate. Some very mild choclate and stronger coffe flavors as you’d expect. Decent. Prolly pretty nice on draft, but just average on this bottle. swirl (267), collingswood, New Jersey, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 17, 2005 A nice dark chocolate brown color with a good tan head. A sweet malt aroma accompanied by chocolate, molasses and even a little raisin scent. The taste is a mixture between a bitter coffee and sweet malt. There is a slight bite of the hops in the aftertaste. Aftertaste also shows some more of the chocolate. Not the greatest of porters but a decent example. lagermonkey (597), Marietta, Georgia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 9, 2005 Pours flat black with a quickly dissipating tan head. Smells smoky, malty and hints of bitter chocoalte.
Tastes smoky and smooth. Nice roasted malt flavors. Bitter, not chocolatey sweet like some porters. Not terribly complex but nice and dry and bitter. Full bodied with that smoky malt aftertaste.
A pretty good porter and very drinkable. Not overly complex but I like the dry bitterness, a contrast to many porters I’ve had lately.

RERATE: Black pour with a quickly reducing head of small dark bubbles. Aroma is roast and chocolate with the chocolate dominating. Flavor is bitter roast and dark chocolate with a body of sharp carbonation - a bit too sharp for such a chocolaty smooth beer. Perhaps some of the finishing bitterness can be attributed to the west coast hop additions. An easy drinking porter. hopdog (5630), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 18, 2005 Bottle. Darker brown in color, medium tan head. Aroma of chocolate a little bit of roast and mild smoke. Flavor also had some lactic sourness that actually added some character to the beer in my opinion. Creamy body. Very nice.
