Commercial Description:
A superb porter, hearty & dark. This one is a staff favorite, made with pale, crystal, Munich, chocolate, and black malts. The darker malts give Coal its color and rich flavor. We use Target and Willamette hops to yield a very subtle hop flavor in this porter. We cellar this beer for close to six months before releasing it on the thirsty throngs of fans.

Sharp vinegary smeel fades into a roasty aroma that isn’t strong enough to comepletely stop the vinegar smell. Looks dark brown pouring, but settles to a deep black in the glass. Nice thick head. This is a thinner porter which is the first thing you notice, but the flavor is commendable. Very roasty and robust, but water thin on the palate. Some very mild choclate and stronger coffe flavors as you’d expect. Decent. Prolly pretty nice on draft, but just average on this bottle.

A nice dark chocolate brown color with a good tan head. A sweet malt aroma accompanied by chocolate, molasses and even a little raisin scent. The taste is a mixture between a bitter coffee and sweet malt. There is a slight bite of the hops in the aftertaste. Aftertaste also shows some more of the chocolate. Not the greatest of porters but a decent example.

Pours flat black with a quickly dissipating tan head. Smells smoky, malty and hints of bitter chocoalte. Tastes smoky and smooth. Nice roasted malt flavors. Bitter, not chocolatey sweet like some porters. Not terribly complex but nice and dry and bitter. Full bodied with that smoky malt aftertaste. A pretty good porter and very drinkable. Not overly complex but I like the dry bitterness, a contrast to many porters I’ve had lately.

Bottle: pours dark brown with a thick tan head. This is a good beer. Mildly roasted malt aroma. Nice roasted flavor. Fairly thin bodied but a nice light nut finish. Good.

Dark brown pour with short beige-white head. Aroma strongly of chocolate. Full, rich palate, sweet chocolatey flavor, with smooth finish. A tasty beverage

Dark pour with red edges. Thin bubbly cram head. Chocolaty aroma, sweet. Roasty chocolaty mix in the flavor. Creamy palate. Slightly bitter hop finish 8/3/7/3/16.

RERATE: Black pour with a quickly reducing head of small dark bubbles. Aroma is roast and chocolate with the chocolate dominating. Flavor is bitter roast and dark chocolate with a body of sharp carbonation - a bit too sharp for such a chocolaty smooth beer. Perhaps some of the finishing bitterness can be attributed to the west coast hop additions. An easy drinking porter.

Poured a dark reddish, brown color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas and tastes of mocha and coffee. Light smoke as well. Lightly sweet and lightly bitter.

Bottle. Darker brown in color, medium tan head. Aroma of chocolate a little bit of roast and mild smoke. Flavor also had some lactic sourness that actually added some character to the beer in my opinion. Creamy body. Very nice.
