Commercial Description:
A superb porter, hearty & dark. This one is a staff favorite, made with pale, crystal, Munich, chocolate, and black malts. The darker malts give Coal its color and rich flavor. We use Target and Willamette hops to yield a very subtle hop flavor in this porter. We cellar this beer for close to six months before releasing it on the thirsty throngs of fans.

Solid porter all the way. Good roasted malt flavors and hop presence throughout. Mouthfeel was a little bit thinner and more carbonated than what I thought I porter should be, but it didn’t detract too much from the beer. Won’t knock anyone’s socks off, but will hit the spot.

12 oz. bottle - poured a brownish black color with medium tan head. Decent lacing on glass as I drank. Aroma - chocolate, vanilla, coffee and roasted nuts. Flavor - Tastes very similar to how it smells. Earthy and nutty. Palate - thin mouthfeel with average carbonation. Finish is dry and slightly bitter. Overall - pretty average Porter. Not bad but not great either.

Poured a very dark brown color that was almost black with a nice tan head that dissipated quite quickly. Aroma was of chocolate, roasted malt, and coffee. Flavor was the same, maybe some caramel detectable. Mouthfeel was nice and drinkability was nice. Would have again.

Flavors of sweet chocolate, roasted malts, caramel, nuts, and a hint of coffee. Aroma is the mostly caramel and chocolate. Very smooth and drinkable but it could use more body - thin for a porter.

From bottle... poured light copperish brown with medium tan head. This didn’t start off well. The aroma... I can tell there’s a chocolate aroma way back there, but I was more overwhelmed by the smell of ortting leftovers in the fridge. This aroma was terrible. Flavor wasn’t anything special either... a bit roasty with more pronounced bitterness. But it was quite watery. Not much body to this, and not much to be excited about. I didn’t enjoy this.

Sampled from a variety 12 pack: Pours a deep dark brown colour with a small tan head. Aroma is instantly nutty with notes of chocolate and oak. Taste is a little thin, slightly watery and noticeable metallic in the finish. Again, either my taste is way off or i had a bad 12 pack. I have a few more in the fridge for re-rating.

Crushed with Jakebra. Vast improvement over their brown. But, so what? Smells, looks, and tastes like a porter and it also smells, looks and tastes like a not very good one. Miles more drinkable than the brown, but feels like theres dirt or something in the mouth.

Bottle: Pour is dark brown with a strong roasted and coffee aroma. Flavor has a bit of chocolate with more roasted and light burnt flavors. Smooth brew with a light but creamy mouth feel. Could possibly use more of a malty flavor.
