| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 25, 2008 I cannot believe how many beers are called "Coal Porter." In any case, this one pours a fine black with a medium, fairly dissipating but lacy cream head. Some notes of soy, coffee and licorice in aroma and flavour, although the taste is a bit thin -- somewhat burnt and woody, tiny bit of sourness, but mostly clean, some light hops. Pretty good, not exceptional. kassner (475), Wexford, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 23, 2008 Fairly dark color, no head, very nice flavors , some funky scents and odors, oil and rye and grass and tobacco but also somewhat unique. Bitter finish modest carbonation. sneagrams3 (1764), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 23, 2008 Tasted 5/13/08. 12oz bottle. Dark brown hue with an off-whiteh ring of head. Cocoa and chocolate nose. Touch woody. Undertone aromas of coffee toffee and syrupy. Medium bodied and smooth. Bitter and hoppy body. Good caramel malts. Nice coffee acidity. Medium effervescence. Resinous woody hops. Rolling palate. Bitter and tart. Sweet and toasty. Good toffee flavor. Once again, solid example.
