Black and had a thick tan head. Thick and creamy with a rich cocoa chocolate bouquet, with aromas of roasted malt. Taste is slightly hoppy with a riche coffee taste and a nice aftertaste.

Aug 18, 2008 12oz bottle, purchased at the brewery. Poured deep brown with ruby highlights, capped with a moderate-sized tan head. Appealing aroma of espresso, mocha, chocolate malt, and vanilla. The body is a little thinner than I expected. Flavor begins with with chocolate malt, with espresso, charcoal, and vanilla flavors gradually building. Finish is fairly bitter, with notes of ash. Overall, this is a decent porter; it displays some flavor while remaining approachable.

Aug 11, 2008 12oz bottle. Good chcocolate and coffee aromas. Black body with tan head and some decent lacing. Thick body with rich chcolate flavoe. Leaves the palate little dry with some coffee notes.

Aug 10, 2008 Ironically enough this does have a dry chalky note a lot like a piece of coal. Even in color, reminiscent of coal. This was not one of those beers that knocked my socks off. Light roasted coffee and caramel, and just slightly bitter in the finish.

Aug 3, 2008 Bottle: Deep brown pour with a modest, creamy beige head. Nice thick lacing. Nose is heavy of roasted malts, coffee, and a little cocoa. Creamy mouthful is dominated by the roast with a little coffee and light bitters. Rather enjoyable, yet not real dazzling. Still, nice brew. Thanks to mcox90.
