Dark brown in color with a small off-white head. Aroma is faint but contains caramel roasted malts and a smokiness. Flavor is of toast, wheat, and heather.

Pours brown with a tan head. Smells of caramel some dark fruit. Tastes sweet and caramelly with a light tea like finish.

My Bottom Line :
Caramel and roasted malts delicately envelop the herbal heather notes, as raisins and earthiness meddle in a balanced, drinkable finish.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A ring of foam circles the dark brown gown.
-Carbonation is rather low, but the dextrins aren’t too heavy, so the mouthfeel remains quite approachable.
-The heather adequately replaces the hops, on top of adding a touch of personality.
-The flavour profile isn’t too compelling, but I cannot say this is not well brewed.
-This is the kind of Scotch Ale I’d drink by the pint, not the sippers I’ve been accustomed to in the style.

Bottle.

22 oaz bottle from Canal’s Hainesport. Pours a deep reddish/brown with an average size light beige head. Aroma is light malts with some notes of chocolate, raisin, peat but just weak for a Scotch Ale. Flavor of caramel and chocolate with some other notes that must be the heather or just some Scottish secret ingredient they didn’t list.

Bomber that I believe I bought on Mt. Desert a few years back. Pours blackish brown with a tan head. Nose is lightly malty. Taste is sweet, malty with hints of caramel. Can’t tell that heather is there. This is decent, but not amazing.

(Bottle). Mild, semi-sweet aroma of malt and caramel. Dark reddish brown color, with moderate light tan head. Flavor is well-balanced, with restrained sweetness, fruits, some caramel. Malty, quite astringent finish. Not bad.

Bottle in Bar Harbor. Have not tried many Scotch ales but I could honestly taste the heather sweetness in this offering. Very easy drinking overall and well done.

Poured a deep dark brown body with minimal off-white head. Smoked peatiness, caramel, and pine in the nose. Interesting heather brew. Light crackly body with mild caramel and heather-sweet finish.
