Mouthfeel is heavy, thick, smooth. Very nice. Nose is sweet candy ( caramel ) and malty. Some floral scents. The label says its brewed with Scottish heather tips, whatever the hell that is. Taste has the same delicious sweet flavor that most Scotch Ales have. Caramel, toffee, a hint of chocolate maybe. Finished a little on the bitter side, but still good. Bought this on a weekend trip to Maine & I’ll definitely look for it again. Dorwart (1828), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 7, 2008 About a 1 inch head from a semi vigorous pour. Dense and creamy. Roasted malts, light chocolate, some rye and a bit of flowers. Color is a very deep port brown. Smooth and very creamy mouthfeel. Little on the thin side though. Lots of roasted grains, some more rye, and maybe some smoke. A pretty strong dry bitterness at the end which is not common for scotch ales. Lingering roasted grains and ash in the aftertaste. Mouth sort of feels gritty in the end. An ok scotch ale but could use some more body and earthy notes. BBB63 (4267), La Porte, Indiana, USA

The aroma has notes of caramel and rye bread, prune, star anise, smoked wood, heather, herbal and grassy hops, and some walnut esters. The taste is moderately malty sweet with a fruity twang, very balanced and drinkable for the style. Gets a bit herbal and woody towards the finish, I swear there is rye in this beer. The mouth feel is medium-bodied with a lively dance upon the palate before heading towards a dry finish.
Really a fine brew and a tad underrated IMO. Mikey Likey!!! (If this beer was brewed by Stone or Bells, it would be a 3.8 or better average beer, know that) IrishBoy (2719), Bakersfield, California, USA

Nose is flowery (heather?), licorice, and a smoky maple note; cloudy brown with a medium cinnamon head; flavor has smoke, prunes, caramel, and a tiny amount of hop bitterness; finish is smoky with a very light bitter note; heather must be very mildly bitter! i guess they should brew this in Scotland where they have heather or I could see if the heather in the California Sierras would work! | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Apr 3, 2008 Tampa Tuesday tasting night – blind tasting, courtesy of Degarth. Pours dark brown with tan head. The aroma is way different than the others tried so far with an odd dark tea note that becomes mildly smoky and then earthy and seems to end smoky. Interesting. Nice mouth feel with a bold taste of plastic, dark tea leaves, earthiness, smoke, mild malt roastiness and licorice. It seems a mild peat note is in there but comes across a bit plastic like.
