Bottler shared by puddintane. Aroma of some maltiness and maybe some wood from the heather. Not really a whole lot of smokiness. A little roastyness. Allright.

Poured a brown color with mahoganey hues throughout. The head was thin but well-sustaining. Lacing was ok. The aroma was dark fruits, light chocolate, only very light smoke. Flavor was strong peat smoke flavors over light chocolate and caramel. With warmer temperatures a more ashy type smoke came through. Some dark fruits in support, but the flavor was a little too watery. Heather was completely missing under the smoke. The mouthfeel was light and acidic.

So, who is MacFoochie? And what does it mean to be hopped with heather? Isn;t that as ridiculous as being heathered with hops? Chestnut colored, dark, hazy, with a tiny brown head. No lacing. Nose of dark malts, although I expected smoke as well. Taste was pretty one dimensional, just sweet dark malts. Maybe the slight vegetable taste is from heather ... but there surely was not much bitterness. I thought that there should have been more carbonation ... mouth feel was flat, dead, syruppy.

Pours a transparent dark mahogany with a thin, wispy-lacing light tan head. Has a sweet dark caramely malty nose with nice peaty notes. Body starts with a fairly full lightly sweet earthy caramel malty flavor with some slightly floral bitterness toward a drier earthy finish. A fairly nice scotch ale.

Bottle... Clear, dark mahogany ale with a small, fizzy, mushroom-colored head. Nose is of caramel, cola, mild raisin and light smoke. Sweet, caramel, cocoa flavor with very little hop bitterness... "hopped with heather", after all. Medium-bodied with lively carbonation. Sweet, chocolaty finish. Never becomes cloyingly sweet, but walks a fine line. Thanks so much, boboski!

(22oz bottle) Large tan head atop a clear dark red-brown body. Aroma is medium sweet, roast, caramel, some herb, light chocolate, smoke. Taste is moderately sweet, caramel, raisin, smoke, some grape, light scotch. Watery medium body, quite drinkable yet in need of a bit more heartiness.

Despite the stupid name, I like this ale. It pours a clear mahogany body lightly highlighted in red with a slender yet creamy tan head. The aroma is a mild, light-sided malt, toffee with a dab or more of butterscotch, a slight earthiness, and a touch of moist fungi and wood. Roasted malts come out in the flavor along with the toffee, a sprinkle of cocoa powder appears, the earthiness becomes more herbal in nature, the mold leaves the beer and infests my socks, and a light touch of smoke emerges. The finish is malty and somewhat dry. Quality beer here.
