Commercial Description:
A refreshing wheat beer spiced with fresh ginger root. The process of making this wheat beer has been nicknamed "special ginger tea", due to the fact that we add over 20 lbs. of fresh ground ginger root into the boil. We use pale malt, and wheat, as well as Target and Whitbread Goldings Variation hops to flavor this light, summer ale. Island Ginger is particularly popular during the warmer summer months, though thanks to the ginger kick it has, it would also be warming in the cold winter months.

pours hazy golden color, smells a bit skunky but also with wheat and light fruit. Grainy sweetness with alchohol and a bit of spicy ginger. I would probably like better during the summer season.

My parents visited the Atlantic Brewing Company in Bar Harbor, Maine while on vacation last year (2006) and brought me back a 12 oz bottle of this beer and three others (Atlantic Bar Harbor Real Ale, Atlantic Bar Harbor Blueberry Ale, and Atlantic Coal Porter) ... Thanks mom and dad! -- Atlantic Mount Desert Island Ginger is a clear, golden yellow color with a small white head that quickly dissipates to leave a thin veil. Pale malt and ginger are evident in the aroma as well as a weak honey sweetness. The flavor is akin to a lager or wheat beer with some ginger in it. The ginger is actually quite well done in this beer as it doesn’t overpower at all and is used to complement the base maltiness of the beer. A lemon zest and spicy hop bitterness in the finish really helps to balance out this beer. There is also a slight alcohol burn in the finish. This beer is light bodied, but not overly carbonated which helps even it out on the palate. This is probably one of the the better beers with ginger in it that I’ve had!

Hazy brownish amber in color with a fairly decent head. More grainy malt in the nose than ginger, but the spice is there. Also more subtle in the flavor than I was expecting. Nice, drinkable spiced brew.

The aroma has fruit, wheat malt, alcohol, spices, cooked vegetables, and some hops. The appearance is amber/gold with a small head. There are lots of little chunks in it. The flavor is like the aroma but astringent with malt and very little ginger. The palate is thin. Not what I was expecting but interesting even if it’s not really that good.

Hazy golden, fizzy off white head. Grainy sweetness fills the nose with very light citrus, wheat, and ginger undertones. Flavor is crisp wheaty ginger with a light bitterness. Pretty refreshing actually. Light bodied, medium carbonation, dry finish. A nice change of pace...
