It is brewed with pale and wheat malts, then hopped with Target and Golding hops. Now here is where it get interesting. During the boil 20lbs of fresh, ground ginger root is added, giving this already outstanding beer, another dimension. Fresh ginger root is pungent in aroma, and hot and spicy on the palate. Novices to ginger being used in a beer might be shocked, but I can assure you it is a very pleasant surprise.
Island Ginger pours to a beautiful, bright, deep golden color with a thick white head and a lively carbonation. The nose on this beer is fantastic with a potent punch of spicy ginger aroma. The palate is firm with a really nice tart, thirst quenching wheat character paired with a very apparent hot and spicy ginger flavor. Island Ginger finishes with more tart wheat malt up front, then ends with a spicy ginger heat that warms and tickles the throat as it goes now.
A fantastic beer just perfect for the warmer months, and a phenomenal beer to match with Asian inspired fare such as Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, or Indian. drainey (231), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Flavor is spicy ginger, but not particularly well crafted. Palate is light and refreshing. A good summer beer. BeerHawk (1175), Huntsville, Alabama, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jan 24, 2006 Bottle. Poured a hazy orange-brown color with a white head that fizzed off quickly. Smells of ginger and wheat. Very faint hoppy flavor. Light body with a lively carbonation that took over the flavor. FROTHINGSLOSH (1984), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy orange color with a medium sized orange-white head. The aroma is hot and spicy with a tangy citrus undertone. The flavor is strong hot candied ginger. The ginger overwhelms any actual "beer" like flavor. The finish is hot and spicy. Not terrible but quite one sided. Tmoney99 (4718), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 20, 2006 Bottle. Clear amber with large frothy white head that diminished slowly. Heavy hoppy ginger aroma. Medium body with soft carbonation. Moderate sweet ginger flavor with a small bitter finish. Drinkable brew. TheBeerOrg (1571), Kentucky, USA

Aroma of citrus and ginger with mild fruitiness and a note of alcohol. Taste is spicy and fruity with a dry finish. Mouthfeel is thin bodied with medium carbonation. No major flaws, but just not enough to satisfy my expectations of ginger greatness. thedm (3834), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Dec 27, 2005 This bottled brew poured a medium sized head of fine to medium sized mostly diminishing white colored bubbles that left behind a fair lacing. The body contained soft carbonation, was hazy and orange in color. Its aroma contained notes of mild ginger and was slightly off. Its mouth feel is tingly and spicy with a lingering tingly palate. Its flavor contained spicy ginger notes and was not much to my liking. Not one I would buy again. steve23mj (273), Essexville, Michigan, USA

Nose is mild ginger and wheat. Flavor is spicy and a bit citrusy. Kind of boring.
