Commercial Description:
A refreshing wheat beer spiced with fresh ginger root. The process of making this wheat beer has been nicknamed "special ginger tea", due to the fact that we add over 20 lbs. of fresh ground ginger root into the boil. We use pale malt, and wheat, as well as Target and Whitbread Goldings Variation hops to flavor this light, summer ale. Island Ginger is particularly popular during the warmer summer months, though thanks to the ginger kick it has, it would also be warming in the cold winter months.

Bottle: Aroma of ginger and grass. Pours a hazy orange with a minimal soapyl off-white head. Flavor is very grassy up front with a moderate, but slightly watery, ginger finish. Wheat characteristics don’t really come thru. Mediocre at best.

12oz bottle - Pours light amber witha short white head that fades fairly quick. Aroma is ginger of course, some other spices, yeast, and maybe a bit of light grains. Flavor is very similar. Quite a bit of spiciness over light grains and malts. Some definite bread flavor as well. Palate is relatively light but not over carbonated. This is drinkable but definitely nothing better than average.

Hazy orange body, thin off-white/buff head. Aroma of ginger, spicy, earthy, and bready. Ginger definitely defines the palate but it is not overpowering. Unfortunately, the rather light, earthy, bready body does not do much to offset or even enhance the ginger spicing. That said, this beer is certainly tolerable, but distinctively average.

this beer is awful in every respect...golden in color with tiny head...aroma is indistinct, only picking up wheat...flavor sucks...very metallic in nature

Jax Package Store, SandySprings, Ga. - 12 oz bottle. Pours a slightly dark golden to light orange with a thin wispy white head - some sediment floating about. Ginger like aroma - smells like the stuff I never eat on a sushi platter. Flavor is reminiscent of slightly stale ginger ale, with a slightly tinny after taste, not much else. Mouthfeel is quite thin. Nothing to write home about.

Thanks to my friend Ron Raike for the beer!

The only resemblance I detect to a wheat beer is the appearance? Hazy golden body and a downy white head. The aroma and flavor are vaguely musty, vegetable like, lightly doughy and yeasty, biscuity, and show the essence of the ginger root. The palate is rather buttery but pretty much on the light side of the spectrum… Not bad but not too memorable either!

I was told that this one was being locally used to barbeque steak with. That sounds like something this one could potentially be applied to. On tap at the brewery. Poured dark gold with almost no head to speak of. Smelled strongly of ginger and wheat. Taste was strange with some clove notes that numbed my tongue a bit along with ginger holding up strong on the finish.

On tap at the brewery. Cloudy golden color with a thin white head. Aroma and flavor of wheat and ginger. Light body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Interesting and original but I’m not a big fan of ginger beers.
