Commercial Description:
A refreshing wheat beer spiced with fresh ginger root. The process of making this wheat beer has been nicknamed "special ginger tea", due to the fact that we add over 20 lbs. of fresh ground ginger root into the boil. We use pale malt, and wheat, as well as Target and Whitbread Goldings Variation hops to flavor this light, summer ale. Island Ginger is particularly popular during the warmer summer months, though thanks to the ginger kick it has, it would also be warming in the cold winter months.

A golden orange color that is very viscous, no light shall get through this beer. Lots of ginger rye and corainder in the aroma. I get a little gingerbread man in the body, but alot more caramel malts. Its pretty damn refreshing i must say.Very light on its feet and wet.

didn’t really know what to expect from this beer (the ole 1/6 sixer) ... Pours a sunrise dark orange, with quite a low head- sticks around barely ... interesting appealing smell, ginger, honey, spice, etc... also has an interesting flavour, ginger and other befuddling tastes... an ok spiced beer that might be better on tap.. Overall: this seems to be a single bottle purchase more than a sixer buy, but maybe worth a shot... Music: Chris Liberator live @ Rotation in Iowa City

Disappointed with this, I was expecting a ginger nose - there was none and a ginger flavor also none. Slight crispness but it was more like an ordinary lager.

Bottle. Pours hazy gold with a white head. Aroma is sweet, light fruit, light ginger. Light body. Flavor is a little bit sweet with fruit and ginger noted. Not bad.

Bottle. Pours a semi cloudy yellowish color with a very small white head. I’m getting a little orange, rolls, wheat and other scents commonly associated with an American styled wheat ale. The ginger is noticed, but it blends well with the citrus aspect. Ah, ginger is much more present in the flavor. The beer is slightly tart and manages to be refreshing in a lemonade way. The finish gets a little gummy after a few sips. It’s a pretty light, simple thirst quencher. Probably not something I’d reach for again. I really like ginger (probably moreso on food, though) but I don’t really like American wheat beers.

Bottle from Jasonmech77. Thanks dude. Pours a dark, layered brown with no head. Nose is very cloves, banana, wheat, brown sugar...this smells very, very similar to the aventinus, though the aventinus is more carbonated and maybe the yeast is slightly different. I dont really know. This smells much better than when I smelled it about two months ago when it first came out. Maybe it just about a different environment, or maybe the 2 months have mellowed it out a little, but we havent tasted anything yet. Flavor doesnt seem to meld well together and alcohol stands out a little too much. Slightly bitter, wheaty and alcoholic finish.

Pours hazy light golden with a fully receding white head. Aroma of citrus and ginger with mild fruitiness and a note of alcohol. Taste is spicy and fruity with a dry finish. Mouthfeel is thin bodied with medium carbonation. No major flaws, but just not enough to satisfy my expectations of ginger greatness.

Bottle. Amber color with quite a bit of carbonation, a little bit of haze and a quickly fleeting head. Aromas are fairly beer-like, and maybe I can smell some ginger (although it might just be that I’m trying too hard.) As it has sat for a minute the ginger picks up and becomes more detectable. Flavor starts off fairly nice and then goes horrendously wrong, but it’s in those first fractions of a second that I find myself thinking this is nice... caramel malt body, a little bit of a hops presence. Then I get hit by a sweet and medicinal flavor that ruins it for me.
