Commercial Description:
A refreshing wheat beer spiced with fresh ginger root. The process of making this wheat beer has been nicknamed "special ginger tea", due to the fact that we add over 20 lbs. of fresh ground ginger root into the boil. We use pale malt, and wheat, as well as Target and Whitbread Goldings Variation hops to flavor this light, summer ale. Island Ginger is particularly popular during the warmer summer months, though thanks to the ginger kick it has, it would also be warming in the cold winter months.

Poured a golden yellow with very little head. Aroma was powerfully gingerry with little sweetness behind it. Flavor was also one-dimensional, with the ginger dominating. Light mouthfeel and a light, but long ginger finish. Did I mention that this beer has some ginger characteristics? I would’ve scored this a bit higher if ginger was cool like garlic, and I could use the brew to fend off Dracula. Oh well.. What can ya do?

Bottle (12oz). Hazy amber, some large dark chunkies, average quick-diminishing fizzy white head. Smells like ginger and sweet peach, slightly floral. Tastes the same - ginger and peach, floral/perfume bitterness, not horrible, I’m surprised - the ginger’s nicely restrained, although it develops a little dry kraft paper taste as it warms. Light bodied, stingingly carbonated, leaves a slightly metallic gingery aftertaste. Better than many ginger beers I’ve had.

This bottled brew poured a medium sized head of fine to medium sized mostly diminishing white colored bubbles that left behind a fair lacing. The body contained soft carbonation, was hazy and orange in color. Its aroma contained notes of mild ginger and was slightly off. Its mouth feel is tingly and spicy with a lingering tingly palate. Its flavor contained spicy ginger notes and was not much to my liking. Not one I would buy again.

Another one from Skyview. Hazy gold color with a medium head. Strong ginger aroma with ample dish soap. Both still linger in the taste, but at a much lower intensity. A little lemon. The soapiness is a distraction, but otherwise good.

2005 bottle consumed on 7/1/2005 with SuIIy. Deep pencil yellow/candied pineapple colored body. Thick and cloudy looking, completely opaque and unfiltered. Fizzy white head recedes quickly to ring, but tons of lacing is left on the glass. Aroma is full on ginger. Not a lot gets around the ginger, though the ginger smells fresh and juicy. Flavor of ginger and vanilla, up front, with a bit of wheat sour/dryness. Light banana chips notes. Low carbonation, lazy bubbles burst forth on to the surface and pleasure the tongue quite nicely. Some candied pineapple flavor on the end, sort of a mix of the ginger and sweet malt. Touches of sourness on the finish, as well. The mouthfeel is quite interesting, with a chewy or perhaps, gummy sort of texture. Well-malted, with ginger and vanilla beans lingering on.

12 oz bottle that my parents brought back from maine- purchased at the brewery in Bar Harbor so I know it is fresh. Pours a very hazy yellow with lots of floaities and no head but a decent carbonation. Aroma is ginger upfront, although not as overpowering as it used to be a few years ago, along with some herbal and spicy hops, and light citrus notes probably all coming from the ginger. Flavor is actually slightly like a ginger ale soda, with some natural ginger flavor, some light piney hints, and a light bready wheaty body. Ends out clean and dry. Nice easy to drink beer- could probably only get through 1 of these though.

Bottle poured a hazy golden amber with a small lasting white head. Aromas of ginger, light wheat and a hint of citrus. Palate was light bodied and crisp. Flavors of wheat, ginger and light citrus with a crisp refreshing finish. Now this is a good summer beer!

Golden color with a smallish off white head. Awesome malty aroma. Taste is loaded with ginger which sounds gross, but is quite refreshing. I'm happy!
