Commercial Description:
A refreshing wheat beer spiced with fresh ginger root. The process of making this wheat beer has been nicknamed "special ginger tea", due to the fact that we add over 20 lbs. of fresh ground ginger root into the boil. We use pale malt, and wheat, as well as Target and Whitbread Goldings Variation hops to flavor this light, summer ale. Island Ginger is particularly popular during the warmer summer months, though thanks to the ginger kick it has, it would also be warming in the cold winter months.

Drank with ilovedarkbeer. Very weak head that goes revealing the burnt yellow hued body. GInger and garbage in the aroma with some cinnamon. Spicey, vegitable taste. Not good.

This beer is an amber/orange color with a thin white head that does not last long. Aroma of sweet ginger and wheat. Light-bodied and spicy with a good amount of ginger flavor. Some malt and wheat in the background as well. More spiciness in the finish, again with ginger dominating. There is a touch of hops in the aftertaste too. The beer seems one-dimensional, although there is just enough going on behind the scenes to keep it from being below average.

I've noticed that ginger beers are often as flat as Kate Hudson. Don't know why, but this beer is hardly any different. Its wheatiness shines through and the ginger flavor is present, but not overwhelming. Good.

(Rating #1783)

Hazydeep brassy gold, thick dense white finger-thick cap. Aroma of grainy cereal and fresh ginger. Flavour is wheaty with natural ginger flavour in good balance, and a nice lemon oil accent. I was pleasantly surprised with this one.

Cloudy dark gold, thin white head. Floral aroma. Earthy, sweetish flavor with a hint of wheat taste. I may be in the minority, but I really didn’t pick up much ginger flavor.

(12 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with goldtwins, thanks Larry!) Ginger beers rarely ever a beverage I enjoy because, well, I just don’t care for ginger root. But maybe they’re growing on me because this one seems pretty drinkable to me, though that’s not synonymous with enjoyable. All I seem to get out of this beer is sweet, spicy ginger in the nose and on the tongue, and the ginger has significantly more presence than most other ginger brews. The ginger is fairly bitter as well, especially in the finish, and while that helps to break up the sweetness, the bitterness is actually a detractor for me. Body is medium with good carbonation. Amber in color with only the slightest bit of haze. The attractive, half-inch of off-white head on the pour dissipates within ten minutes or so -- not even a ring of head and no lacing. Very flavorful, lots of ginger, but I suspect this is one of those acquired tastes I’ll never acquire.

Tastes almost like a witbier, just with ginger replacing the citrus. Mildly spicy. Thin bodied. It leaves a tingling sensation on the tongue, much like the fresh ginger you may nip while eating sushi. An original beer, albeit a gimick product lacking in anything particularly interesting.
