Commercial Description:
A refreshing wheat beer spiced with fresh ginger root. The process of making this wheat beer has been nicknamed "special ginger tea", due to the fact that we add over 20 lbs. of fresh ground ginger root into the boil. We use pale malt, and wheat, as well as Target and Whitbread Goldings Variation hops to flavor this light, summer ale. Island Ginger is particularly popular during the warmer summer months, though thanks to the ginger kick it has, it would also be warming in the cold winter months.

I thought this was surprisingly decent. Reasonably spicy and slightly different. Similar to a witbier, but not nearly as creamy or smooth. Lightly dry. Unfiltered, but not much sediment at all. Very drinkable. Strange aroma.

Dark Golden color with a nice white head that lingers and is slightly cloudy. It like the ginger smell. Spice ginger taste is prevalent but creates an earthy mouth feel that is slight unpleasant.

This beer is an amber/orange color with a thin white head that does not last long. Aroma of sweet ginger and wheat. Light-bodied and spicy with a good amount of ginger flavor. Some malt and wheat in the background as well. More spiciness in the finish, again with ginger dominating. There is a touch of hops in the aftertaste too. The beer seems one-dimensional, although there is just enough going on behind the scenes to keep it from being below average.

How weird that this would be my very next rating after Orange Blossom Cream Ale. Nose of ginger & sawdust. Interestingly enough, smells like ginger ale! Pours a sparkling clover honey. The frothy off-white head is mostly diminishing with no lace. The brew is very crisp & interesting with moderate acidity, and a spicy finish. The light body is creamy & lively. The finish feels crisp.

12 oz bottle that my parents brought back from maine- purchased at the brewery in Bar Harbor so I know it is fresh. Pours a very hazy yellow with lots of floaities and no head but a decent carbonation. Aroma is ginger upfront, although not as overpowering as it used to be a few years ago, along with some herbal and spicy hops, and light citrus notes probably all coming from the ginger. Flavor is actually slightly like a ginger ale soda, with some natural ginger flavor, some light piney hints, and a light bready wheaty body. Ends out clean and dry. Nice easy to drink beer- could probably only get through 1 of these though.

Bottle. Slightly hazy yellow and orange color. Fresh, peppery ginger-ale nose, sweet smelling. Up front it’s mildly peppery, but has a basic wheat/golden ale malt sweetness, with the ginger fairly light, which is nice, actually.

12oz bottle, purchased at the brewery. Pours hazy pale yellow-golden, capped with a moderate sized white head. The aroma is primarily ginger, with some wheat and white pepper. Ginger flavor is not as pronounced as I expected, at least not initially. The flavor is primarily cereal and wheat, with ginger ale and orange flavor toward the finish. Ginger hangs around for a fairly long finish, but it’s not too intense. Interesting beer, but the flavor just doesn’t work for me.
