Commercial Description:
Cask: Regular.
NOTE: Only ratings for the cask version here. The bottled version is pasteurised and has a spearate entry.
Nimbus Strong Pale Ale (5.0% abv) resembles the famous Kölsch beers of Cologne: pale in colour, soft in mouthfeel, but strong in alcoholic content. Our rendition has a rich, warming hop and a memorable malt character.
A small addition of around 5% malted wheat to the grist gives this beer much of its body and softness.
The aroma is of pronounced fresh-fruit hops, together with a sweet nuttiness. On the palate this beer has a verdant, almost vegetal, hop presence. Nimbus also exhibits lovely malt character of fresh bread and almonds.
This beer has understated power: delicate, complex and more-ish despite its relative alcoholic strength.

Gravity cask at the London Drinker BF. Gold with a white head. Clean tasting with a slight wheat tang. Restrained light hoppy finish.

From cask@Charlie’s Bar, Copenhagen. A bright, yellow colored beer with a tiny greyish head. Weak malt aroma, some apple-fruitiness and a faint note of wood and cork. Taste has a dry, mouldy malt character, and a sharpish bitterness that last all the way through. Medium-bodied, dry and quite refreshing.

A crisp light, gold ale with a white film. Orangey hops with crisp underlying cereals on the nose. It begins with a mild bitterness full of lemony acidity with puffs out into a rich, lemon cheesecake finish with a hearty dose of malts. (Pairing this with salted snacks really brought out lighter, floral flavours.) It was quite thin but easy to drink and it stood up well. Interesting, a great big fruity lift. Lightly refreshing and quaffable.

Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Gold with a small white head. Faint aroma, sweet and with a sulphurous hint. Sweet fruity taste, very delicious, with earthy malts in attendance. Slight bitter finish. Good.

Half pint, cask by air pressure dispense at Abbotsford Bar enjoying ourselves on Friday eve in Edinburgh. Plain golden, naked body. Has got a smooth touch of tropical fruits in aroma and flavour. Lack of bitterness, however quite filling and dry in the mouth. Refreshing, but otherwise boring [14.11.2008].
