WakeandBake (422), Greenville, Michigan, USA Aug 7, 2009 Bottle. A bright clear golden color body with way too much head (usual for Atwater) over carbonated . Aroma is of light hops , yeast , hay and slightly metallic . Flavor is grainy, slightly fruity , light hops and a sour metallic finish, light bitterness, slightly sweet, fizzy mouthfeel , light body . Drinkable but nothing I would buy again.
carlb (36), East Lansing, Michigan, USA Jul 22, 2009 Pours like a clear golden lager. Nice creamy white-off-white head formation. Moderate carbonation. The head dissipates quickly and the lager leaves virtually no Belgian lacing. Sweet notes of hay on the nose. Appears very light on malt and hops. The body is unexpectedly light. Very soft on the palate. The label suggests traditional German methods. What exactly do they mean by that? Is this an all-malt brew? For me it is too light and bright for Vienna Lager and too low on hops and malt for the Helles moniker. Makes me think of Schlitz rather than Spaten. The lingering is only moderately pleasant. CharlesDarwin (1822), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA Jul 6, 2009 12oz Bottle. Thanks Sean! Light pilsener malt and hop tang. Dry and with minerals. Pours a rather gushy lightly hazed deeper golden, with half a foot of soapy, lacing just-off-white head. Flavor is alright and gives more of a hint of infection. Some tangy alcohols, a bit of soppy wetness and some graham cracker-like malt. A little loose. milewide (609), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Jun 8, 2009 Gusher!!! Opened cold from frig, but still over-flowed. 1/3 bottle ended up on counter. Aroma, color, body and taste were Bud-level. However, the lone positive was a slightly sour after-taste. johnnyoski (160), Macomb, Michigan, USA Mar 21, 2009 12oz bottle. Poured a clear golden color with a mile high white head. Had to wait several times to finish pouring the entire bottle. Sweet, yeasty aroma. These are also present in the flavor along with an unpleasant sour finish. Could be an infected bottle but I already had a bad experience with one of their other varieties. I need to get down to the brewpub to see if these problems are limited to their bottled brews. Tmoney99 (4652), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Mar 5, 2009 Draft sample at MBG Winterfest 2009.
Poured clear golden color with an average frothy white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Solid balanced sweet aroma. Medium body with soft texture and soft carbonation. Medium balanced flavor with a medium smooth sweet finish of moderate duration.
Drinkable brew.
