Aug 8, 2006 Near black pour with a taller bubbly light tan head. Aromas of sourdough and sweet roasted malt. Dark roasted malt and tar flavors. A mild lactose type sweetness mid to late sip. Some pine sap, earthy malt and ripe dark fruit join in the mix. Somewhat weak as a baltic porter.

May 12, 2006 12oz bottle. Lively upon opening. Dark and dull black. Tan head. Strong bitter coffee nose. Anise and cinnamon. Rather full, yet sour and fruity. Tangy and tart. Dry and piney. Chocolate and citrus. Smooth and easy. Cherries and prunes.

Apr 12, 2006 I like the name... they could have played with the label a bit. Pours a deep, dark reddish-brown/black with a mocha head that holds as a 1cm cap. Musty prune and coffee aroma... just the thing to get me goin’ in the morning. Big sourness to the flavor. If you can get over it you’ll find some chocolate and bitter coffee roastiness. Nuttiness climbs out in belches. Sour bitterness lingers. Not "the smoothest porter I have ever tasted." Body is smooth, taste is unrefined. Will rank 39th out of my 43 Porter/Baltic Porter ratings.

Mar 30, 2006 on tap at the brewery. nice blackish color, with a very sweet chocolate and butter aroma. apparent diacetyl in the smell, but perhaps it’s just a ton of residual sweetness, as the body is syrupy chocolatey. cloying, buttery, inappropriately roasty, but despite those things it’s still not that bad. stick to the ’regular’ lagers from this brewery.

Mar 29, 2006 Great looking pour...deep, rich mocha with a tall, rich, long-lasting head (if poured aggresively). Strange combination of flavors...roasted (no, make that burnt) malt, chocolate, rancid coffee, nuts, and a very off-putting lactic sourness that kept creeping back in. I hoped for something better.

Mar 8, 2006 Nice pour, a nearly black, nearly solid dark brown with a tall, creamy brown head. Wish it’d hung around longer. The aroma is a bitter chocolate blended with Brazil nuts and some sweet roasted malts. Reads better than it smelled. The flavor is of roasted sweet malts, old coffee, chocolate, and a strong nutty bitterness. Reads better than it tasted. Finishes on a grainy, bitter note. Mar 5, 2006 Updated: Mar 8, 2006New arrival in Iowa City. A light khaki colored head topped a very black body. The aroma is walnuts with some light cheap chocolate and day old coffee. The taste is old coffee with some light milk chocolate in the finish. Nice and roasted with a thin body. I got lots of diacetyl on the second try.

Mar 1, 2006 Michigan Winter Beer Fest....black appearance with small head...aroma is of chocolate and coffee, with some earthy notes...flavor is quite similar but is much sweeter than its aroma...nice palate
