Nose full of oak, chocolate, vanilla, and slight toasty hops. Beautiful dark amber color with thick creamy head. Vanilla character set off by hops along with slight coffee, oak, char, and chocolate notes.
Good beer!
Update: Sours on the finish and flavors are thin as the beer warms. Changed rating accordingly. armando629 (997), Budapest, Hungary

| 0.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 1/10 | 2/5 | 1/10 | 1/5 | 1/20 | Mar 21, 2009 Hard to find anything good about this beer. It might be the worse beer I have ever had. it had a block opeck color, with very little head. the aroma had a very sour smell. you could taste ,coffee and chocolate, and it was strong, but that was underlined by the very sour taste, that almost made me sick. and vanilla. What vanilla? I thought I had a bad beer, until I read other comments similar to what I found. There were actually chunks in my beer. the finish was just so bad. there was just nothing good about this beer, and struggled to even give it the grade I did. just undrinkable. imadeadguy (378), back in NJ!, New Jersey, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 18, 2009 12oz. Pour is deep brown with little to no head. Aromas of coffee, chocolate, and roasted malts. Flavor is roasted malts and coffee. No vanilla in this one at all. It sounds much better than it is. Elwood (677), Leesburg, Virginia, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Mar 17, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Pours a murky dark brown with a very small off white head. The head dissipates quickly leaving no lacing per se. Heavy vanilla and coffee notes in the nose give me hope. Mild carbonation with a somewhat astringent quality. It has a certain sourness that doesn’t seem to pair well at all. Sweet with a very little bitterness. Dry. I don’t get the coffee on the palate nearly as much as I did in the nose. Lighter in body and finishes fairly clean. As I was finishing this one, the flavors merged into a definite BBQ flavor. Very weird. It definitely didn’t put it’s namesake to very good use. | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Mar 14, 2009 Dark, almost black with a decent tan head. Aroma is vanilla and kind of a band-aid smell. Tastes more like a bad oatmeal stout than anything. Vanilla and roasted malt are discernible while there is a very weird sour taste throughout. Not very good for what I was expecting.
