| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 10/20 | Aug 12, 2008 not a great beer.taste seemed bland with a taste of vanilla. The vanilla/chocolate flavor was strong but it lacked any other ’real’ flavor. Still better than Miller Lite! JK (2962), Richfield, Minnesota, USA

I like the idea and some of these vanilla beers, like Breckenridge, are good. This one is black and has a strange aroma of chili peppers. Some roasted malt. 2 2 4 2 6--------& rerate: much better. Coffee and some vanilla. A thin palate, but good flavor and much more drinkable this time. jackzodiac (12), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 1.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 2/10 | 2/5 | 5/20 | Jul 31, 2008 When I poured it, it took on a very quick, thick, but not foamy (more bubbly) head. It had a decent aroma with obvious coffee notes. Its tasted awful. Very bitter, not dark at all, almost nothing like a porter- and barely a hint of vanilla or coffee, let alone a nice, dark, roasted malt in the flavor. A disappointing purchase. tool2scream (14), USA

Very unique flavor, but not a good one in my book. HUGE disappointment. phishpond417 (1953), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jul 28, 2008 This porter is definately one of those big robust porters you are looking for on a cold winter day. It packs a lot of flavor. Colour pours dark- black with a reddish tint near the top and bottom. No head, just a little tan ring on top, I guess you could call it a head if you wanted to. Aroma is nutty, with lots of strong vanilla. Little carbonation- that’s cool with me. Very creamy, caramel flavour and dry finish but otherwise nice all the way through. badgerben (3605), Blaine, Minnesota, USA

More green pepper in the flavor. Dry malt finish and a very little bit of vanilla. Great idea, but did not work out at all. mvcramer (229), Arlington, Massachusetts, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jul 15, 2008 Sampled at ACBF on 6/20 in Boston and thought it was delicious. I love vanilla and really wanted to like this one. Brewer at the festival was a great guy as well.
Purchased a 6-pack a few weeks later and was all fired up for a great beer. Unfortunately, it kind of fell flat. Pours a deep brown but with a very thin head, which was disappointing. Aroma has strong vanilla (excellent) and coffee notes, as hoped for. It felt a bit over-bittered on my palate. Just tasted a bit off to me. Not horrible (don’t get me wrong, the beer is still very drinkable) but just not as spectacular as I had expected.
I’m going to finish the rest of my 6-pack and see if my opinion changes. I really want to like this one!!
