Theres not much roastiness, coffee or chocolate. The body is smooth without much hoppiness. Tastes like a crappy candybar. tupalev (2618), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 4, 2008 On tap, Hop Devil Grill, NYC. Black with red notes, very little head. Good vanilla aroma, very inviting. Nice porter like body, thin yet with some substance. Taste is good intially but then the vanilla goes out of whack and dominated - too much! Slightly artificial taste as well takes away from the nice coffee notes and decent porter in the background. Vanilla really is a tricky thing to do right, decent effort. chimpscampee (566), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 3, 2008 Underated but not by much, Coffee and vanilla notes to jump out. It has a narrow flavor like, say, 8 ball stout, but is not nearly as good. UnsofistaCat (222), Garden City, Michigan, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 27, 2008 This is the best of the Atwater beer I’ve had via my BOTM club. That being said, this Porter could use some body. For a porter Its a little thin tasting The aroma is a mix of chocolate, tobacco and a hint of vanilla. The flavor is a mix of the chocolate malt and vanilla. I couldn’t really taste the coffee. The label says this beer is an award winning porter but then again so does Miller Lite. On the upside I used one of these beers to make some BBQ sauce and it worked well. agillespie81 (206), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 17, 2008 Opaque in color. Little head for the style. A very bold, sweet aroma......very noticeable hints of coffee and vanilla. Sweetness of the vanilla hits up front with slight coffee undertones. Malty back with a long coffee aftertaste. Slightly crisp, yet creamy mouthfeel. Nejhleader (930), Lemoyne, Pennsylvania, USA

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jan 12, 2008 Bottle: More brown than the black I expected, with a rolling top of tight foam. The aroma is sweet and smoky all at once. This drinks without any real standout characteristics. I don’t get much of any vanilla in this, despite the moniker. There is a hint of coffee, but not much, either. It’s just moderately ashy and roasty, but one that would be easy to drink for anyone. (#3279, 1/12/2008)
