| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 31, 2007 12 oz bottle purchased at Capone’s. Poured a deep dark brown with a fizzy average size light tan head. Aroma was a cross between vanilla flavored pipe tobacco and a coffee/ vanilla scented bathroom freshner. There was an odd soapiness in the aroma that just distracted me. Either the carbonation was a bit too much or the body was bit too thin but somewhere between the two this beer just didn’t have the right mouth feel. Flavor was better then the aroma with a nice lingering aftertaste of coffee, slight vanilla and possibly even a little tobacco. I see what they were going for with this beer and it’s not bad but some subtle changes and this one could be way better. dpbhoosier (51), USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jul 29, 2007 Bottle. Dark and toatsty. Coffee aroma. Thin mouth feel. Odd flavor like a cola. alexsdad06 (1081), Ohio, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jul 27, 2007 12 oz. bottle. Pours black with a touch of crimson at the edges. The fizzy off white head disappeared almost instantly. The aroma was roasted malt, coffee, and a hint of sweetness but was not a strong presence. The flavor is roasted malts that are slightly sweet. Then the flavor becomes something i can’t quite place but is definetly not supposed to be here. the mouthfeel is medium and I can’t get more specific because I am stuck on the weird flavor. This is not one I will buy again.
I started reading what other people had to say about this one and thanks to muenster I have it: PEAS. That is right on the money. tronraner (1916), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jul 24, 2007 Bottle, split with NachlamSie. Pours dark brown with beige head. The aroma is cold coffee, caramel, and some plantiness. The flavor is ash and some stale coffee; then gets pretty intense cola quality and carbonation. This has potential, but needs some work. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 22, 2007 Bottle split with Tronraner. Pours a considerably dark red with a fair tan head. The nose is roasty and gummy. This porter is a weird mesh of flavors. Many desirable flavors are present in the way of ashy, roasty, gritty bitterness. It’s got that tasty bite that I like in a nice porter. On the other hand, especially in the finish, some not so great things come out like cola and a bit of veggies. So, I guess this is pretty average in the way of drinkability although definitely strange. crizay (1050), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 1/5 | 9/20 | Jul 21, 2007 Had this for breakfast with my pancakes, eggs and bacon. Black pour, a brown head that fades to nothing. Aroma of coffee beans like smelling a can of coffee. Flavor is coffee beans, real dry and roasted and with a straight acidic irony aftertaste. Vanilla rides in the background blending with the coffee well but you can just tell they used beans and not actual coffee. Thin watery mouthfeel, hardly any carbonation, seriously this beer needs to go back on the drawing board.
