| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jun 6, 2009 Good sized head of light brown bubbles. Light chocolate malt aroma with some roasted grains and composting grass. Not the best aroma and pretty much devoid of coffee and vanilla which I expected to find in the aroma. Slightly tart and acidic. Weak roasted grains, some dark fruit and bitter chocolate. Again, no real coffee or vanilla. Not a very good brew. Ryan82SM (261), Louisville, Kentucky, USA
| 1.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 1/5 | 5/20 | Jun 5, 2009 Aroma has an almost "International Foods" coffee scent, any vanilla detected may only be the power of suggestion. Dark Brown, opaque pour with a light mocha head. The coffee flavor tastes like old Folgers, is kinda acidic, and once again, no vanilla detected. Palate is non-descript. Needs a lot of work to be even a mediocre beer. baraciisch (140), USA
| 1.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 4/20 | Jun 4, 2009 Kind of funky coffee aroma... Dark brown in color with tan head... Flavor tastes like rotten coffee, not enjoyable at all... Terribly disappointed... Palate is not existent.... I could and have brewed way better porters.. I actually poured it out which is unheard of for me... Disgusting... kopher (305), New York, USA
| 1.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 2/10 | 2/5 | 3/20 | Jun 2, 2009 what? this is terrible. it’s sour watery coffee. a bit of artificial vanilla and lots of smoke (?). it was also very foamy.
i’d say the bottle was infected, but the only other atwater beer i’ve tried (voodoo) was similarly crappy.
this is pretty much a drain pour. i mean it’s fizzy and sour and just not good. weitz15 (77), West Lafayette, Indiana, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | May 23, 2009 Tan head, very very very foamy. This brew has an aroma of coffee and malts. The taste is of slight coffee with a slightly hoppy finish, but not enough to leave a bitter aftertaste. Though this beer is not offensive, it is disappointing. I bought vanilla brew in the hopes of tasting some vanilla, and there is none present in this beer. tgncc (829), Bellmore, New York, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 15, 2009 Aroma is malty, with some notes of coffee. The appearance is typical to the porter, dark brown, tinge of red, tan head. The flavor is roasted coffee, malty, no note of vanilla. The vanilla comes through on the finish. The finish has no hops or anything else going on. Not terrible, but not good. shawnm213 (957), South Bend, Indiana, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 10, 2009 pours black. strong notes of vanilla and coffee. tasty. this brew is not for people who don’t care for vanilla, in case you were wondering. apingos (77), Rockford, Illinois, USA
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | May 6, 2009 bottle at Octane. Poured black with weak head. Very strong coffee notes with a thin body. Sweet roasted malt taste. This is what I call a "girlie" beer. I wasn’t impressed. I question the 6% ABV.
